Job Summary

The Power Plant Engineer provides technical support for power generation operations & maintenance to ensure safe, efficient, reliable and environmentally compliant plant performance. This position focuses on evaluating system performance, supporting maintenance planning, analyzing operational data, leading major maintenance & Capex projects, and assisting with environmental and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities

Management

  • Support and reinforce plant safety and environmental compliance programs.
  • Assist with maintaining regulatory compliance by supporting audits and environmental assessments.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, specifications, drawings and maintenance plans.
  • Coordinate activities with Vendors/Contractors, other divisions, and departments.
  • Follow NRG procedures to ensure completion of quality work in a timely manner.
  • Participate in capital and O&M budget development for process equipment reliability.
  • Champion the Change Management program.
  • Track service bulletins for turbines/generators and assess implementation and compliance strategy.
  • Work effectively in a team environment as a leader, member and/or facilitator.

Engineering & Maintenance

  • Conduct or support with inspections, testing and condition assessments of power generation systems (turbines, generators, boilers), auxiliary components and facilities.
  • Support with troubleshooting & perform root cause analysis of equipment failures and implement corrective strategies.
  • Evaluate component condition and repair options on a regular basis.
  • Perform field inspections and takes field measurements.
  • Performs engineering calculations.
  • Recognize problems and proactively resolve them by identifying and implementing new or existing technology.
  • Revise and create prints and drawings.
  • Write or assist in the preparation of Technical Specification documents.

Operations Reliability

  • Identify Critical equipment and devise maintenance strategies to maintain highest equipment reliability.
  • Analyze performance data to identify trends and recommend system improvements or upgrades.
  • Identify & implement asset condition monitoring techniques to ensure reliable operation of assets.

Projects

  • Develop job scope and conduct job walks with contractors for bids and job execution.
  • Support outage planning & scheduling including development of inspection schedules and technical evaluations.
  • Develop quality work plans when required.
  • Supervise contractors & Inspect completed work or work in progress to assure job quality.

Working Conditions

  • Office and outdoor power plant work environment, High/low ambient temperatures, and high humidity, may require working at heights
  • May require some travel, requires operation of a motor vehicle and a valid driver's license, requires wearing personal protective safety equipment while in the plants,
  • Overtime or non-standard hours may be required.
  • Reports to Maintenance Manager and does not have direct reports.
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or related Engineering discipline.
  • Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of power plant operation and systems.
  • 4+ years of engineering experience in a power generation environment (gas or steam turbines).
  • Experience with outage inspections, project implementation, and documentation development.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, ERP/CMMS, and plant data historian systems (e.g., PI).
  • Ability to learn new software and applications.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer (PE) Certification
  • Experience in combined cycle power plant.
  • Experience in vibration analysis, balancing of rotating equipment, and metallurgy.
  • Familiarity with turbine control systems (GE, Siemens, ABB/Alstom).
  • Proficient with SAP S4/HANA
  • Hands on with MS Project or Primavera
  • Hands on with CAD software
  • Project management certification
  • Maintenance & Reliability certifications

Please Note: The salary range for this role is $77,600-$139,680. Pay is based on several factors, including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc.
