Primary Purpose of Organization Unit
The James B. Chavis Student Center provides meaningful co- and extra-curricular developmental and educational opportunities for students in a values-based and student-centered environment as outlined by the University's mission.

The Associate Director of Campus Engagement provides strategic leadership, oversight, and direction for student engagement initiatives that enhance campus life, foster student development, and create a dynamic co-curricular experience. This role is responsible for advising student programming efforts and advancing engagement strategies that support institutional priorities.
Job Description
The Associate Director of Campus Engagement provides strategic leadership, oversight, and direction for student engagement initiatives that enhance campus life, foster student development, and create a dynamic co-curricular experience. This role is responsible for advising student programming efforts and advancing engagement strategies that support institutional priorities.
The Associate Director leads major campus-wide programming efforts, advises Pembroke Activities Council ( PAC), serves as primary contact for the Brave Experience student engagement model and BraveConnect, and supervises professional and student staff as appropriate, ensuring seamless execution of student activities, facility operations, and engagement initiatives within the Chavis Student Center and Hawks Nest recreation center.
Programming and Activities :

  • Provide oversight of evening and weekend programming across campus, ensuring a vibrant and engaging student experience.
  • Provide leadership for student engagement, ensuring alignment with the Division of Student Affairs' strategic priorities.
  • Lead the Pembroke Activities Council (PAC) as the primary advisor, providing strategic guidance on event planning, budgeting, and student leadership development.
  • Oversee the planning, assessment, and financial management of large-scale campus programs, including Welcome Week, BraveNation Bash, Festival at Old Main, and Late Night Breakfast.
  • Develop collaborative partnerships with academic departments, university offices, and external stakeholders to enhance student engagement opportunities.


Brave Experience and Student Development:

  • Serve as the primary administrator for the Brave Experience student engagement model, ensuring programmatic alignment with student success and retention initiatives.
  • Develop and manage BraveConnect and Brave Experience Pathways that track and recognize student engagement milestones.
  • Facilitate Brave Experience sessions at New Student Orientation and other key engagement opportunities.
  • Provide training and consultation for faculty and staff on integrating Brave Experience activities into curriculum requirements and utilizing BraveConnect.
  • Utilize data analytics to assess and refine student engagement strategies, ensuring continuous improvement.
  • Monitor and modify events on BraveConnect to ensure all events are tagged appropriately to support analytics and accurate tracking of Pathway completion.
  • Maintain web and social media presence for Pembroke Activities Council and other student activities.
  • Oversee and update the Chavis Center's Programming Manual, establish and maintain best practices and policies for student programming, campus events, and facility operations.
  • Design and facilitate training sessions and workshops related to utilizing BraveConnect to promote events and track engagement.

Supervision and Facility Operations:

  • Supervise and guide professional staff in the management of Hawks Nest recreation center and Chavis Student Center operations, ensuring efficient facility use, high-quality programming, and adherence to safety policies.
  • Collaborate with professional staff to align programming and operational initiatives with broader campus engagement goals.
  • Oversee related student employee hiring, training, and professional development, ensuring excellence in service delivery and student leadership growth.
  • Ensure the effective use of technology and equipment in student programming, including gaming systems and digital engagement platforms.

Other Duties

  • Represent the department on institutional committees and initiatives as appropriate.
  • Serve as a liaison for campus-wide student engagement efforts, collaborating with key stakeholders to enhance student life.
  • Assist with and contribute to university-wide events and initiatives as needed.
  • Lead comprehensive program assessment efforts to measure student engagement, satisfaction, and learning outcomes.
  • Assist with monitoring budgets and financial planning for student engagement programs, ensuring fiscal responsibility.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Campus Engagement.
