National Grid is hiring a Low Carbon Fuels Associate Engineer for our NY Gas FOH Eng and R&D Programs dept in Melville, NY.

Job Purpose

The Associate Engineer isresponsiblefor delivering technical evaluations of potential Renewable Gas production and/or hydrogen facilities that will provide low carbon energy derived from renewable power, municipal wastewater, solid waste, farm waste or other sources or organic waste in support of the Company's Clean Energy Vision.

The Associate Engineer will also beresponsiblefor the design, development and implementation of Company guidelines and standards associated with the safe and economically advantageous interconnection of renewable gas and/or green hydrogen production facilities with the Company's gas distribution systems in accordance with industry best practices. laws, and state regulatory requirements.

Key Accountabilities
  • Perform basic engineering analysis and conceptual design of the interconnection of third-party renewable gas or hydrogen supply facilities to local gas distribution networks in accordance with industry standards such as the "Interconnect Guide for Emerging Fuels into Energy Delivery Networks" published by the Northeast Gas Association.
  • Ensure the design of physical interconnections to the gas distributions systems are safe, reliable, not disruptive to the community, environmentally superior and economically optimized.
  • Manage timelines and coordinate with renewable energy developers, regulatory agencies, permitting agencies and various Company functions.
  • Evaluation and determination of the impact of the interconnections on communities specifically Environmental Justice or Economically Disadvantaged Communities
  • Technical support to all aspects of the development process for Renewable Gas and.or hydrogen developers
  • Prepare regulatory filings and respond to regulatory inquires and support outreach to the communities impacted.
  • Renewable gas or hydrogen interconnection project oversight and progress reporting
  • Knowledge sharing among MA and NY technical teams and the wider National Grid workforce.
Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree in engineering, science or technology from an ABET accredited engineering school. Graduate degrees in engineering or business are also encouraged.
  • Knowledge of the design and operation of systems that transport, treat, and monitor combustible gases, preferably systems that transport natural gas.
  • Knowledge of current trends within the bio-fuels and piping industries and developments in legislation or regulation
  • A driver's license with a safe driving history is required.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Work in a Project Management team environment
  • Adapts approach and considers what is important to the audience and tailors' message accordingly.
  • Actively builds and maintains a network of relationships, outside normal business contacts.
  • Takes personal responsibility for correcting problems promptly and not defensively and communicates engineering customer expectations to monitor delivery of engineering projects and satisfaction.
  • Is receptive to change and is willing to change ideas or opinions based on latest information or contrary evidence.

Salary
$99,000 - $117,000 a year
Salary commensurate with location and experience
