General Responsibilities |
The English Program Manager is responsible for supporting the English department head(s), coordinators, and divisional leadership in key areas related to maintaining and growing the program, corequisite, multilingual English learning and college-level English courses, and departmental student supports, specifically the Academic Center for Excellence (
ACE)@ Composition and Learning Center - English (ACE@CLC). This includes recruiting, hiring, training, scheduling and supervising tutors, and promoting and assessing student usage and opportunities for improving services in the ACE@CLC. Programmatically, the English Program Manager will support the department with assessment, scheduling, staffing, and help facilitate processes such as observations and other areas as needed. This position reports to the department chair(s) and requires close collaboration with department/division leadership, faculty, Teaching and Learning areas, and student success and academic support areas. |

Program Management
Coordination, Process, and Workflow Support
Provide needed support for English Department heads, coordinators, and faculty by:
- Supporting hiring/staffing and scheduling processes for English Department courses
- Supporting department chairs/coordinators with semester/session startup processes including:
- Ensuring that PT and FT ENGL faculty have proper Canvas access
- Maintaining communication with HR, payroll, and operations to ensure smooth onboarding and continued employee compensation
- Updating/maintaining ENGL Department email distribution lists and communicating with division office staff for alignment
- Performing Canvas checks as needed
- Manage and facilitate adjunct observation schedule/process and adjunct support for corequisite and college-level English courses
- Provide frequent status updates on adjunct faculty needs, faculty needs, and CLC and student needs
- Collaborate with chairs and coordinators to improve the English program offerings, including supporting program/major events and supporting curricular needs
- Collaborate with departmental leadership and faculty on functional environment of the lab setting and lab instructor program (embedded supports) for corequisite and relevant courses
- Work with Completion Services and Completion Specialists, embedded tutors, and ENGL course coordinators (especially corequisite) to facilitate wraparound support for corequisite, 7-week, and relevant courses
- Support chairs in planning/facilitating coordinator meetings as needed; create and send agendas, take and maintain minutes and records
- Attend department meetings
- Teach up to 1 ENGL course per year, when possible, to stay current and effective
Resource Management
- * Maintain, curate, and update Canvas resource site for English department and faculty, including syllabi templates, course templates, and readings, meeting agendas/notes, and other materials
Data Management and Analysis
- * Assist the department and division leadership with data/assessment efforts in support of the program and its initiatives
ACE @ CLC Oversight
Staff Supervision and Management
- Oversee the ACE@CLC Daily operations and spaces, including Corequisite and Multilingual English Learner Student Space
- Recruit, interview, train, schedule PT staff receptionists and 10-20 adjunct, student, and PT tutors
- Supervise front desk staff and approximately 10-20 adjunct, student, and PT tutors
- Organize, schedule and facilitate in-person and virtual tutoring with full-time faculty volunteers, adjunct faculty, and hourly staff, including students
- Evaluate tutors and staff
- Track shifts and complete payroll tasks of staff and tutors.
- Collaborate with Academic Center for Excellence (ACE) to centralize data, train staff, and streamline services; Collaborate with ACE@Math Resource Center to support/train tutors
- Support Multilingual English Learners (MEL) needs in the ACE@CLC by collaborating with MEL chair/coordinator/faculty to support language and pronunciation lab, maintain lab spaces, and promote lab
- Innovate and execute potential new partnerships and opportunities to grow the ACE@CLC's engagement and reach for students in ENGL/MEL/INFO program and courses
- Coordinate events for students and faculty in ACE@CLC (workshops, brownbags, etc.), proactively engage students, plan and publicize opportunities for student engagement with ACE@CLC services
- Tutor 4 hours per week in the CLC; maintain regular presence on campus
Resource Management
- Oversee and maintain resource information through website and hall TV monitors to advertise and announce pertinent English and CLC information
Workflow/Process Oversight and Facilitation
- Act as a liaison between CLC, chairs, ACE
- Coordinate requests with IT, AV, and Plant Ops to provide necessary services in the CLC
- Maintain accurate information in tracking system.
- Monitor the collection and assessment of student data related to the CLC and its efficacy and use
Communication and Promotion
- Communicate relevant information about the CLC to instructors and students.
- Promote CLC services at events across campus, such as MEL lab, workshops, events (ex: Creative Write-In), etc.
- Promote and collaborate on corequisite workshops and event offerings in the CLC
Data Management and Analysis
- Assess needs, usage, success of students using services and collect other data as needed to assess effectiveness of ACE@CLC and inform improvements

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED
- M.A. in English, Education, or related field
- Experience working in a Writing Center, coordination or lead tutor experience preferred
- Experience with computer-based instructional strategies and software, including tracking software
- Experience working with a diverse student body in an educational setting
- Experience working with students transitioning to college-level coursework
- Experience with educational software and computer-based instructional methods
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Knowledgeable in principles related to diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, Microsoft Outlook, and Learning Management Systems
- Comfortable learning new software
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational skills

- Regular attendance is a requirement of this job

- In-person, on campus. Some remote work hours may be available (up to 2 days/week).
- Some evening/weekend hours may be required depending on special events and rush/peak times.
