Job Family Description

Engineering roles perform engineering work in operations, production, construction, or maintenance environments. They may design and scale up manufacturing processes, instruments and equipment and tests manufactured products to maintain quality. They may plan, design, and estimate time and cost and oversees construction and maintenance of structures, facilities, systems, and components. They analyze and develop solutions to engineering problems related to manufacturing equipment and systems or the causes of component failures. They develop and apply engineering standards and procedures and provide advice on issues within the engineering field.

Discipline Description

Civil/Structural/Architect (C/S/A) Engineers provide engineering support for civil and structural installations and systems (e.g., roads, bridges, dams, building structures, stacks etc.) in an operating nuclear materials processing plant or as part of the broader site infrastructure. They identify system concepts and determine system functional and technical requirements, develop, and analyze equipment performance, monitor system performance, troubleshoot, and resolve problems and ensure operation within technical, regulatory and safety basis requirements. They propose and develop process/system improvements including equipment upgrades, and plant modifications.

Geotechnical engineers ensure the safety and sturdiness of foundations for streets, buildings, and other structures and systems. They focus on how these manmade objects interact with the earth, including soil and rock.

Structural engineers design and assess major projects, such as buildings, bridges, and dams, to ensure their strength and durability. They provide design and construction oversight of structural engineering tasks.

Some Typical Duties & Responsibilities Include:

* Advanced knowledge of AISC, ASCE 7, IBC, Allowable Stress Design (ASD), Load and Resistance Factor design (LRFD) structural codes and standards
* Advanced knowledge of ACI, ANSI, and ASTM codes. Advanced knowledge of standard engineering/scientific practices and applications.
* Advanced knowledge of steel and concrete design.
* Complies with federal, state and local requirements and advising management on needed actions.
* Understanding of Structural software such as Mathcad, STAAD, Hilti anchor design software, RISA structural design software.
* Understanding of ICC 500 code, Architectural Barriers Act (ABA), and OSHA standards.
* Strong communication, decision-making, organizational, problem-solving skills and attention to details, understanding on civil, geotechnical and structural engineering safety standards, engineering reports, technical papers multitasking and time management skills, perform design reviews to ensure compliance with DOE Orders and SRNS Site Standards and procedures.
* Establish technical requirements for development and updating design input/functional criteria documents.
* Support the Design Agency providing technical input for design changes or updated functional requirements.
* Detail-oriented for design reviews.
* Planning and executing walkdowns and construction support as requested to assure the equipment is installed to meet the specification requirements.
* Providing design agencies technical input on design changes required during design/construction phase.
* Provide subject matter expertise in Structural, concrete and soil design/operation.
* Communicate results and objectives verbally and manuscript form to customers, colleagues, and management.
* Demonstrate cost and schedule consciousness through timely completion of assigned tasks and projects.
* Ensure appropriate technical performance of the end product developed and designed to resolve the original problem.
* Plan technical effort and coordinate activities with those of other divisions, departments, and sections in focuses areas to solve problems.
* Incorporate conventional engineering or scientific practices and a variety of complex features such as complicated technical requirements or processes and difficult coordination or oversight requirements into problem solving and program planning where only general objectives are stated.

P3: Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, structural engineering, or architecture plus at least five years of experience (YOE) in a relevant role, OR Master's degree in relevant field plus at least two years of experience (YOE), OR Doctoral degree in relevant field

P4: * Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, structural engineering, or architecture plus at least ten years of experience (YOE), OR Master's degree in relevant field plus at least eight years of experience (YOE), OR Doctoral degree in relevant field plus at least five years of experience (YOE)

* Candidates who have possessed an active DOE clearance (L or Q) within the past two (2) years are preferred.
* Master or PhD degree from accredited college or university in civil engineering with focus in structural and architectural
* Extensive design experience (within the last 15 years) in the nuclear or chemical process industry Previous SRS Design Authority Engineering or DOE facility experience is preferred.

Security Clearance Information

SRNS is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, criminal records, and employment history, and education verifications. Positions with SRNS may require applicants to obtain and maintain a DOE L or Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. Factors such as pre-employment background review results, dual citizenship status, and unpaid and/or unfiled taxes may impact your ability to obtain a security clearance.
