This position will oversee product engineers in the development of aftermarket chassis products. Primary duties include management and approval of new product introduction, resourcing, renovation, innovation, new product line introduction, and supplier change requests. This position will coach engineers in the development and refinement of product specifications, testing procedures, failure mode and effect analysis, and in the evaluation of quality concerns. Additionally, it is expected that this position will aid in process improvement for the sake of improved efficiency, quality, forecasting and output tracking. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- The engineering manager will be responsible for managing a team of product engineers, technicians, and interns, some of which are in a different location
- Managing the team includes evaluating team members work capacity and distribution of responsibilities, setting team member goals and training plans, and performing twice annual performance reviews.
- The manager is expected to be capable of developing creative, clever and quick decisions for team members when work does not neatly fit into existing product specifications and procedures.
- Working with purchasing and supplier quality to select, develop and approve new global suppliers
- Assisting product management and sales with new business opportunities and customer retention. This includes developing an understanding of the market and competitors, aiding product management in the development of product specifications to suit the customer and preparing and presenting technical presentations to customers.
- Assisting manufacturing plants with production issues including management and approval of deviations, change notices, and line down support.
Minimum Requirements: Education:
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related engineering field required
- Masters' degree preferred
Experience:
- Minimum/Essential: 5 years of experience working in the automotive engineering.
- Minimum/Essential: 3 years of experience leading engineering teams
- Must have knowledge of APQP, PPAP, and experience in creating Product requirements such as DFMEA and DVP&R (design validation plan and report).
Skills:
- Functional capability in project management including creating project scopes, schedules, and deliverables
- Strong team player with ability to work effectively on cross-functional teams.
- Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
- Excellent communication skills required. Fluent in English, multiple languages a plus.
- Technical familiarity with a range of materials and manufacturing processes desired.
