The Sr. Application Development Specialist will support the internal and external implementation of emerging engineering and processing technologies. They will serve as the technical expert in advanced engineering and injection molding techniques including, advanced CAE (structural, heat management, mold filling), concept and feasibility analysis, and specialized IM technologies. They will support/lead the technical aspects of Engineering Plastics (EP) industry teams including Automotive, Electrical and Medical and independently lead the technical engineering support of customer projects/developments. They will lead Accolade Technology project initiatives in advanced engineering and processing topics; performs multiple, complex technical assignments, requiring technical innovation and project management skills; and design and execute complex engineering and processing experiments internally and with key customers.

Major Tasks & Responsibilities:

• Technical expert in advanced engineering and injection molding techniques including, advanced CAE, structural and heat management simulation, thin-wall design and processing, and other specialized IM technologies.
• Lead complex concept, design, costing, feasibility and CAE analysis of new customer applications
• Build value propositions based on engineering solutions for industry application areas such as MOB, EE and HC. Support the internal and external implementation of emerging design and processing technologies
• Support design and field engineers in complex/non-standard design and molding challenges
• Utilize advanced CAE analysis technologies to solve complex engineering problems
• Oversee set-up and run of highly complex injection molding processes
• Support/lead the technical aspects of EP industry teams including Automotive, Electrical and Medical; Lead Accolade Technology project initiatives in advanced engineering, tooling and processing topics
• Performs multiple, complex technical assignments, requiring technical innovation and project management skills
• Design and execute complex engineering and processing experiments internally and with key customers
• Independently author industry papers/technical literature
• Maintain state-of-the art knowledge and capabilities in plastic design and processing

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Plastics Engineering with 6+ years of applicable technical experience; OR Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Plastics Engineering with 4+ years of applicable technical experience; OR PhD with 2+ years of applicable technical experience
• Experience utilizing CAE techniques

Knowledge and Skills

• Expertise in Computer Aided analysis techniques including Moldflow, Abaqus and Solid-Works
• Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with external customers and multidisciplinary groups within Covestro
• Demonstrated expertise in utilizing design engineering and CAE to provide solutions to complex customer applications
• Demonstrated expertise in plastics processing, primarily injection molding
• Deep knowledge of injection molding equipment and understanding of latest innovations
• Ability to interface with Global CTT colleagues and transfer knowledge to NAFTA region
• Expertise in Computer Aided analysis techniques including Moldflow, Abaqus and Solid-Works
• Deep knowledge of mold design and troubleshooting
• Strong understanding of Makrolon/Blends and competitive grades relative to design and processing
• Ability to independently define and conduct complex engineering projects
• Must be a strong team player and understand the fundamentals of team membership
• Expertise in advanced statistical process control, RJG and other process optimization techniques (DOE and Six-Sigma knowledge a plus)
