The Position

Pharma Partnering is comprised of Business Development and Alliance Management, which are a diverse group of professionals who apply scientific, financial, and negotiating expertise to establish and maintain collaborations and other strategically important transactions (such as M&A, option deals, new company formation, etc.) in support of gRED, pRED and PD/GPS mission.

The Opportunity

  • People Leader

    • Line manager for a team of Business Development Project Leaders responsible for driving individual projects

  • "WANT"

    • Deep understanding of gRED, pRED, and PD Therapeutic Area (TA) R&D / Commercial strategies and BD priorities

    • Participate and influence TA Strategy Development. Special emphasis on developing TA partnering WANTS and strategic areas of partnering interest of the R&D Unit(s) at their site

    • SPOC for senior TA stakeholder management with the R&D Unit(s) at their site

    • Coordination with Partnering and R&D Leadership Team on prioritization of TA BD activities at their site

  • "FIND"

    • Alongside Partnering TA, BD project leads, and TA R&D units, sources high-priority BD opportunities through scientific monitoring, competitive intelligence, networking, industry conferences and partnering events

    • Builds and maintains relationships with external partners and venture capital community as a representative of Roche

  • "GET"

    • Supports transition of identified opportunities to "GET" phase (Due Diligence and Negotiation). Collaborate with Partnering Leadership and BD project leads to identify and set-up deal teams for success.

    • Coordination of TA partnering activities on site

    • Serve as Deal Sponsor to BDPLs through diligence, governance and negotiation to contract execution. Coach, mentor and guide BDPLs to successful deal strategies and internal/external positioning.

    • Involvement with external partners as senior member of Pharma Partnering team

  • Serve as an ambassador for Pharma Partnering internally and externally at industry events, engaging with executive management of potential partners.

Who you are:

  • You hold a Masters Degree, PhD, PharmD or similar scientific background in biological or chemical sciences is required;

  • You have 10 years minimum of strong background in biotechnology and/or pharmaceutical drug development -. Relevant expertise in the designated therapeutic area required.

  • 5+ years minimum business development experience in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry- Significant business development strategy and negotiation experience.

Additional experience:

  • Strong scientific acumen, self-motivated drive, and genuine interest in following novel science and emerging industry trends

  • A positive, can-do attitude and collaborative spirit to engage across Partnering and Roche Genentech R&D units

  • Demonstrated history of successfully leading teams or strategic corporate initiatives within a matrix organization across functions. Influences through impact and collaboration without reporting lines. Is a strong team player.

  • Able to manage relationships - understands the organization; build productive relationships, networks and alliances. Established network of contacts in key academic institutions, biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies

  • Is an effective networker who shares knowledge within the relevant teams

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills; highly capable of articulating Roche Genentech's value proposition and partnering interests to varied audiences (internal and external) including e.g. C-level and Board representatives of external companies

  • Ability to present to and obtain endorsement by senior management on complex projects through evidence-based communication. Ability to read an audience and be effective in challenging discussions.

  • Provides Vision and Clarity, leads execution - determines and articulates clear strategies and objectives. Track record of following through to execute on the strategy.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, superb oral and written communication skills, analytical capabilities and leadership experience.

Relocation benefits are not available for this position.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of California is $252,700-469,300. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
