Job Description:

Responsible for coaching, recruiting, scheduling and budgeting of the University's intercollegiate NCAA Division III Men's
Basketball. Teaching an activity class or other second assignment within the Athletic Department is required.

JOB DUTIES

  • Ensures the well-being and safety of student-athletes participating in all Trinity University's or the Men's Basketball program's events.

  • Coaches and develops student athletes currently enrolled at Trinity University and involved in the Division III Men's Basketball program. Develops and implements practice and game plans for 144 Days / 25 Game Season.

  • Recruits qualified prospective student athletes according to Trinity University Admissions Office guidelines.

  • Manages and develops assistant coaches and their duties. Directs, coordinates, and evaluates employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with all policies and applicable laws. Interviews, hires and trains employees; plans, assigns, and directs work; creates work schedules and conducts performance appraisals, counsels, and disciplines employees; addresses complaints and resolves problems.

  • Develops and proposes a Men's Basketball schedule of contest for each season and manages travel for away games. Develops and proposes a Men's Basketball budget annually and manages expenditures within the allocation.

  • Monitors currently enrolled student-athletes' eligibility to compete by maintaining Trinity University and the NCAA's required academic standards.

  • Assumes position of second assignment in the athletic department as determined by the Director of Athletics. Monitors the NCAA Transfer Portal.

  • Conducts a search and hire/mentor a full-time Assistant Men's Basketball Coach.

  • Teaches activity classes if assigned to do so by the Director of Athletics.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

  • Abides by NCAA Division III rules and regulations.

  • Remains "on-call" for student-athletes needs 24/7, nights and weekends. Requires extensive travel and time during the regular season and during the recruiting season.

  • Cooperates and collaborates with other employees in the spirit of teamwork and collegiality and interacts with confidence, patience and integrity to provide professional leadership during emergencies.

  • Complies with all Trinity University policies and guidelines.

  • Performs other duties as required.

EDUCATION

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university.

Preferred:

  • Master's degree or equivalent from four-year college or university.

EXPERIENCE

Required:

  • 1 year to 3 years.

  • Prior coaching experience.

Preferred:

  • 3 years to 5 years.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Required:

  • Group dynamics.

  • Basketball skill development.

  • Basic understanding of technical aspects of basketball skills and strategy.

  • Coaching, recruiting, budget management, and scheduling.

  • Roster management.

  • Interpersonal communication skills with parents, students, and alumni.

  • Evaluation of skill level of prospective student athletes.

  • Knowledge and ability to communicate the value of a Trinity education.

  • Awareness of current and future needs for the basketball program's success and development.

  • Demonstrated effectiveness in the recruitment of student athletes and the instructional aspects of coaching.

  • Effectiveness in recruitment of student athletes and the instructional aspects of coaching is particularly important.

Preferred:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.

  • General understanding in strength and conditioning concepts.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

Required:

  • CPR certification
