CANES Technician
Position Summary:
As a Consolidated Afloat Network and Enterprise Services (CANES) (AN/USQ-208) Technician, you will provide engineering and technical services for the Mid-Atlantic Regional Maintenance Center (MARMC) in Norfolk, VA.
Clearance Requirement:
- Must be a US citizen with a current/active DoD Secret security clearance.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Conduct Fleet Technical Assistance (FTA) onboard surface ships and aircraft carriers to evaluate and correct fleet equipment/system casualties.
- Provide technical assistance repairing and replacing malfunctioning or failed components. Including, but not limited to: distance support, onboard, corrective repair action, onboard maintenance training, and logistical support.
- Provide technical level of corrective maintenance, installation and testing of CANES systems.
- Identify and correct installation, operation, maintenance, and connectivity anomalies.
- Provide distance support via telephone, e-mail, and chat to deployed and local ships for technical and logistic matters associated with CANES (USQ-208) equipment.
- Perform onboard maintenance training to the ship's force personnel during technical assistance visits to improve the ship's force proficiency in the operation and maintenance of CANES.
- Complete written Technical Assistance Visit Report (TAVR) and TAVR worksheet data upon completion of FTA support. Enter FTA/maintenance data into Fleet Technical Support (FTS).
- Provide daily job status updates for the FTS database.
Required Education, Skills, and Experience:
- Minimum of three (3) years hands-on experience (within the last 5 years) in troubleshooting, assessment, and repair of one or more of the following systems:
- Consolidated Afloat Network and Enterprise Services (CANES) (AN/USQ-208)
- Naval Tactical Command Support System (NTCSS)/NIAPS
- Host-Based Security System (HBSS)
- Assured Compliance Assessment Solution (ACAS)
- Specific experience gained in the troubleshooting, repair, and assessment of the following systems/equipment is desired:
- Red Hat/Linux
- EMC Storage/Backup Solution
- Assured Compliance Assessment Solution (ACAS)
- Windows Server Update Service (WSUS)
- System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM)
- Host Based Security System (HBSS)
- Naval Tactical Command Support System (NTCSS)
- System Center Operations Manager (SCOM)
- Blade Center
- VTC
- Any experience gained at a Mobile Technical Unit (MOTU), Fleet Technical Support Center (FTSC), or Regional Maintenance Center (RMC) should be so annotated in your resume.
- This position has been designated as a DoD Information Assurance (IA) workforce position in Information Assurance Technician Level II (IAT II), and as a condition of employment, incumbents of this position are required to:
- Earn and maintain appropriate credentials from the DoD IA workforce Qualification Matrix (described in DoD 8570.01-M) associated with the specialty area and level commensurate with the scope of major assigned duties for the position to which assigned.
- Participate in a continuous learning program to maintain certification.
Physical Demands and Expectations:
- Ability to travel and work overtime on short notice
- Regular physical activity to include walking, climbing stairs, and standing; frequent periods of prolonged sitting may be required.
- Maneuvering around tight spaces in a shipboard environment
- Ability to speak, read, hear, and write, with or without assistance.
- Ability to use phone and computer systems, copier, fax and other office equipment
