Sr. Cost Accountant
SUMMARY
The Senior Cost Accountant is responsible for managing and
maintaining the cost accounting system, incorporating understanding of
manufacturing operations, inventory analysis, and GAAP.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Calculate impact of cost changes to Inventory.
- Set Up and update cost types for items.
- Manage all product cost accounting activities in the factory operations.
- Review all work order variances prior to closing for potential corrections.
- Prepare and provide monthly variance reporting for presentation to management.
- Prepare and provide monthly absorption analysis and data for domestic and international manufacturing operations.
- Maintain a professional working relationship with representatives of sales, inventory, purchasing, manufacturing, and engineering to correct and improve procedures to reflect accurate manufactured products cost and inventory.
- Prepare annual overhead standard rate and material revaluation to include all analysis, cost and rate loading.
- Recommendations to make changes to the company's processes and policies to reduce cost and maximize profit.
- Prepare monthly flash estimate of work order variance.
- Analyze changes in product design, raw materials, manufacturing methods, or services to determine effects on costs and conducts root cause analysis.
- Prepare monthly journal entries related to cost accounting activities.
- Reconcile intercompany inventory clearing account.
- Assist with annual audits.
- Assists with month-end and year-end inventories.
- Advising executives and upper management on appropriate costing based on financial data.
- Monthly travel to Godley, TX required.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's degree (B. A.) in accounting or related field from four-year college or university required.
- Ten plus years' experience in manufacturing, multi-location, international business required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES
- Strong communication skills mandatory for interfacing with various levels within the company - Manufacturing, Purchasing, Accounting/Financial reporting, Operations, Senior Management, Corporate office, Engineering, and Location staff.
- Solid skills and experience with development/application of standard cost method and performed revaluation of existing product standard costs a plus.
- Proficient in the areas of General Accounting, General Ledger and Sub ledger, variance analysis, and use of ERP systems (Oracle experience a plus).
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Proficiency in Excel, experience in manipulating large databases a plus
