We are looking for a Junior Systems Engineerto join our Lightning team at Vaisala in Eden Prairie, MN. Help administer, develop, connect the world's largest, most accurate global lightning detection network.

What's your role?

You will be part of our Lightning team, a small agile group of professionals. Together with the team, you will have an excellent opportunity to build out the next generation of our lightning systems. In this role you will be working in close co-operation with the Technical Product Manager for Lightning. You will report to Data as a Service Core Team Lead




  • Infrastructure Development: Build and configure both Data Centers and AWS Cloud systems to ensure optimal performance.
  • Network Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve network and connectivity issues efficiently.
  • System Configuration: Optimize system communication for durability and minimal latency.
  • Observability Engineering: Develop and maintain observability solutions for the various systems you will support.


  • Customer Interaction: Engage with customers to understand and address their specific requirements.



What will you bring?




  • Linux Systems Experience: Basic proficiency with the command line interface (CLI) and basic GNU utility programs.
  • Systems Scripting: Some experience in Bash scripting for task automation in Linux environments.
  • Networking Knowledge: Familiarity with TCP, UDP, ports, firewalls, and the use of SSH for remote system configuration.
  • Python Skills: Basic knowledge of Python for automation tasks beyond shell scripting.
  • Eagerness to Learn: Willingness to learn and adapt to both existing and new systems, including proprietary and widely applicable technologies.
  • Documentation Writing: Strong documentation skills to effectively communicate technical processes and solutions.



ANTICIPATED SALARY RANGE: $70,000 - $85,000 base salary.Salary is determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.
