Job Title: UX/UI Designer and Developer

Onsite Requirement: A couple of days onsite required and travel to different sites.

Job Summary: The UX/UI Designer & Developer will play a critical role in the modernization of the client's Applicant and Administrator Applications. This individual will be responsible for leading Human-Centered Design (HCD) initiatives from discovery through implementation, conducting user research, developing personas and journey maps, designing intuitive interfaces, and building functional, responsive front-end prototypes. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in UX research, UI prototyping, and front-end development - including HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, React, Angular, and responsive design frameworks like Bootstrap- and work closely with stakeholders, project managers, and developers to ensure user-focused, accessible, and scalable design solutions.

Key Responsibilities

UX Design & Research



  • Lead the discovery and design phases of the SDLC by conducting stakeholder interviews, user research, and usability testing.
  • Develop UX artifacts such as personas, journey maps, empathy maps, user stories, and wireframes, mockups, and user flows.
  • Define and document UI/UX requirements and best practices with a focus on accessibility (WCAG 2.X / 508 B compliance)) and cross-browser compatibility.
  • Analyze existing workflows in the client systems and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Translate user insights into actionable design solutions that enhance usability and reduce friction through usability validation and multi-platform testing experience.


UI Prototyping and Design



  • Create high-fidelity, interactive prototypes using tools such as Adobe XD, Sketch, Figma, or InVision.
  • Design modern, responsive UIs that function seamlessly on desktops, tablets, and mobile devices using responsive layout techniques compatible with all DOE platforms.
  • Present and iterate on design ideas through feedback loops with client stakeholders and developers.
  • Apply branding and visual consistency across client platforms while enhancing usability and accessibility.
  • Incorporate principles of Google Search Optimization (SEO) into design for enhanced discoverability and performance.


Front - End Development



  • Develop responsive UI components using HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript, and modern JavaScript frameworks like React and Angular.
  • Collaborate with backend developers to integrate UI designs within MVC frameworks and .NET-based applications.
  • Ensure front-end code is clean, scalable, and compliant with security and performance best practices.
  • Troubleshoot UI issues during testing and production rollout phases.
  • Maintain compatibility across platforms through cross-browser compatibility testing and implementation of Web 2.0 standards.


Qualifications



  • Experience: Minimum 8+ years of experience in UX/UI design and front-end development with a combined Designer and Developer background.
  • Technologies: Advanced proficiency in HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript. Strong experience with Adobe XD, Sketch, InVision, Figma, React, Angular, and Bootstrap.
  • Methodologies: Demonstrated application of Human-Centered Design (HCD), Design Thinking, and Agile methodologies.
  • Experience with .NET MVC-based environments and integration into enterprise applications.
  • Experience modernizing legacy systems in public sector or education-related IT projects.
  • Familiarity with performance testing tools, responsive grid systems, and design system frameworks.
  • Knowledge of DOE systems, or similar education-sector application modernization projects.
  • Accessibility: Deep understanding and implementation experience with WCAG 2.XSection / 508 B compliance standards.
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to work with cross-functional teams.
  • Collaboration: Proven experience collaborating with technical teams, business stakeholders, and end-users.


Compensation and Benefits

The projected compensation range for this position is $122,500 to $150,600 per year benchmarked in the New York area. The target salary is $136,200 for this role. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. Salary at LCG is determined by various factors, including but not limited to role, location, the combination of education/training, knowledge, skills, competencies, certifications, and work experience.
