Position Summary:
The Human Resources Generalist supports
the facilitation and alignment of NJIT's business goals and objectives with HR strategies and best practices in a
designated portfolio of units. The incumbent collaborates with all of Human
Resources to deliver value-added service to management and employees that
supports NJIT's goals, vision, and mission. This position enhances value to the
business by being proactive, driven by a sense of urgency and striving for
continuous improvement. The incumbent advises managers and employees on new and
ongoing HR programs and initiatives and is also responsible for maintaining an
effective level of business literacy about the academic/administrative unit's
goals, objectives, financial position, culture, challenges, opportunities, and
its successes.
Essential Functions:
-Serves as the client's first level of contact and efficiently manages and communicates employee lifecycle changes.
-Proactively collaborates with leaders to identify staffing issues, talent needs and trends; provides guidance to hiring managers around effective decision-making strategies pertaining to internal and/or external selection processes.
-Provides guidance and support regarding recruitment, onboarding, performance management, compensation, benefits, employee and labor relations, and HR information systems in consultation with the Interim AVP HR Partnerships and other HR colleagues.
-Maintains an effective level of the business unit and provides support in proactively assessing organizational needs and recommending human capital solutions, demonstrating an understanding of the client's business needs and goals.
-Analyzes trends and metrics in collaboration with the Interim AVP HR Partnerships and other HR colleagues to develop/design solutions, programs, and policies.
-Provides continuous support to management to facilitate talent development, performance management programs, and agency succession recommendations while working to improve organizational effectiveness, talent quality and performance.
-Provides guidance and input on unit reorganizations and strategic workforce planning under the direction of the Interim AVP HR Partnerships.
-Works closely with management and employees to implement employee engagement strategies, improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention.
-Collaborates in partnership with the HR Partnerships team members and ELR to support and resolve complex employee relations issues and investigations.
-Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Prerequisite Qualifications:
-Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
-2-4 years of professional experience in human resources.
-Knowledge of multiple HR disciplines including talent acquisition, compensation, organizational development, employee relations, EEO/diversity, performance management, and federal and state employment and labor laws.
-Ability to build relationships and foster teamwork.
-Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
-Working knowledge of multiple human resources disciplines and knowledge of employment laws.
-At the university's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be exempted where the candidate can demonstrate to the satisfaction of the university, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.
Preferred Qualifications:
-SHRM-CP/PHR
certification preferred.
-Prior
experience in a higher education environment and a union environment.
