Primary Function of Organizational Unit |
The Department of Coastal Studies (
DCS) was established in 2018. Primarily a research department, the
DCS coordinates and enhances research communities across ECU's Greenville campuses, the Outer Banks campus, our partner Institutions, and with associates around the world.
DCS provides
ECU with a strong center and point of contact to expand its leadership role in addressing interdisciplinary coastal and marine issues. The Department of Coastal Studies includes faculty on the
ECU-Greenville campus and the
ECU-Outer Banks campus. These locations enable faculty to take advantage of the resources available on the main campus, as well as having cutting-edge laboratories, classrooms, and boating facilities directly on the Croatan Sound |
Job Duties |
The
ASA position provides administrative support duties to multiple individuals at ECU's Office of Diving & Water Safety (
DWS), the Department of Coastal Studies (
DCS), and the Integrated Coastal Sciences PhD Program (
ICS), including the
DCS Business Officer, the Director of
ICS, and the Chair of
DCS. This position works across multiple programs within the Integrated Coastal Programs and helps support the research, education, and public relations aspects of the mission. Serves as a liaison with
DCS and
DWS leaders, and research faculty, staff, students, and other constituents. Expected to be aware of university policies and procedures, as well as various state regulations. Responsible for administrative scheduling, independent composition, and coordination of meetings. Critical components of this position are organizational ability and independence in performance of work responsibilities. Point person to the public to obtain, clarify or provide general information regarding
DWS,
DCS,
ICS and answer questions as appropriate - by telephone receptionist, contacting vendors, scheduling, and coordinating meeting and events. Processing graduate contracts, travel paperwork, making travel arrangements as requested, and assisting faculty and staff with
ECU travel process software. Prepare reimbursements and monitor office expenditures. Able to enter orders in
