Vice President of Philanthropy and Foundation Advancement:

The Philanthropy Division encompasses four market level foundations, including Suncoast Hospice Foundation, Tidewell Foundation, Hospice of Marion County Foundation and Trustbridge Hospice Foundation. The VP also holds a system-level portfolio of major and planned gift donors and plays a key role in coaching, supporting, and aligning local gift officers and market leaders. Reporting directly to the Chief Philanthropy Officer, this role is essential in ensuring the seamless execution of strategic initiatives and the advancement of a high-performing, donor-centered culture of philanthropy across Empath and the communities it serves.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a strategic partner to the Chief Philanthropy Officer, ensuring that philanthropy goals are integrated with the overall vision and mission of Empath.
  • Align foundation operations and fundraising strategies with the needs of local programs and services across the organization.
  • Represent the Philanthropy Division in internal and external stakeholder meetings, as needed.
  • Recruit, mentor, and retain a high-performing team focused on operational excellence and donor engagement.
  • Directly supervise leaders in: Data & Analytics, Grants and Grant Management, Corporate & Strategic Partnerships, Annual Giving, and Planned Giving Administration.
  • Create a collaborative environment that supports professional growth, fosters inclusion, and upholds the vision, mission and values of Empath.
  • Strategic Operations & Infrastructure
  • Lead the strategic and day-to-day management of philanthropy shared resources, including:
  • Planned giving, estate administration, and legal compliance
  • Donor data services, database administration, and analytics
  • Prospect research and pipeline development
  • Grant strategy and compliance
  • Corporate and strategic partnerships
  • Annual giving and digital fundraising initiatives
  • Supervise and support directors across these functional areas, ensuring performance metrics, goals, and innovation are continually advanced.
  • Champion a data-informed culture through robust reporting, segmentation, and impact tracking.
  • Revenue Generation
  • Maintain a personal portfolio of high-level donors and prospects to secure major and planned gifts aligned with system-wide priorities.
  • Provide planned giving guidance, strategy, and resources to market-based leaders and gift officers to advance and support local market fundraising success.
  • Collaborate with the CPO and Foundation leadership on planned gift giving, donor engagement, solicitation, and stewardship strategies.

      Position Qualifications/Requirements:

      • Minimum of 12+ years of progressive fundraising leadership experience, ideally within healthcare, hospice, higher education, or similarly complex nonprofit environment.
      • Bachelor's degree required; advanced credentials such as a Master's degree, JD, CAP, or CFRE strongly preferred.
      • Demonstrated success in major and planned gift cultivation and solicitation, 7 figure+.
      • Strong background in fundraising operations, grant management, donor databases (preferably Raiser's Edge), and performance analytics.
      • Experience overseeing corporate and foundation relations, as well as digital and annual giving campaigns.
      • Proven ability to lead and inspire diverse teams in a diverse environment.
      • Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and strategic thinking skills.

      Location:

      This position will be based in the Empath Health footprint, and will require travel throughout the Empath Health footprint, including overnights.
