Position Summary

Execute the day-to-day activities in the operation of the tool room in accordance with established process instructions. Ensure tool room assets are in a ready-to-issue condition and adequate quantities of tools and equipment are available to support production work at local and out of area projects. Maintain an accurate inventory and database record of all tooling and calibrated equipment. Strong knowledge of tools/equipment, mechanical/electrical background, and customer service skills are required.

Provides services for pickup of material from vendors and delivery of material to local job sites. Receives material and issues to jobs in accordance with existing procedures. Maintains various lists, databases and programs related to material control and issue. Occasional overtime and travel may be required.


Duties And Responsibilities

The Tool Room/Material Clerk reports directly to the Tool Room Supervisor/Warehouse Manager. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Execute the operation of the day-to-day activities in the tool room.
  • Carry out minor tooling repairs, modification of parts as required.
  • Liaise with external contractors regarding external refurbishments.
  • Complete tooling records detailing all servicing and repair work carried out.
  • Initiate and route Purchase Request (PR) for the purchase, calibration and repair of tools and equipment as required to maintain an adequate inventory to support production work.
  • Maintain Calibration Records for tools and equipment. Ensure calibrated equipment assigned to a project will be within its calibration periodicity for the duration of use.
  • Notify the Tool Room Supervisor of any critical tooling and equipment needs or issues, and any loss of inventory when tooling is returned from projects.
  • Ensure all tools and equipment are properly maintained by competent personnel and schedule/perform maintenance in a timely manner. Maintain adherence to good housekeeping practices.
  • Ensure tool requests are properly completed, filed, and entered in the database.
  • Provide inventory status for all tooling and tool kits weekly to the Tool Room Supervisor. Provide a weekly status of tools / tool kits issued, returned and condition when returned.
  • Oversee the Tool Room Storage Areas to ensure the areas are properly maintained (e.g., proper material storage/segregation, material certification, high/low level limits, shelf life, etc.).
  • Ensure that the work area is maintained in a safe and clean condition and always being mindful of HSE requirements.
  • Picking up material from local vendors and performing a receipt inspection to verify type, size, and quantity against the Purchase Order.
  • Conducting local deliveries to vendors utilizing Purchase order and DD Form 1149.
  • Conduct deliveries to projects at local shipyards and military bases.
  • Assisting the Material Handlers in assigned tasks and in the daily operations of the department.
  • Completing general filing, scanning, data entry, etc.
  • Following proper procedures to receive, warehouse, control and distribute Government Property.
  • Will interface daily with employees and managers. Maintain positive customer relations when answering incoming phone calls, responding to email inquiries, and in -person interactions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum 2 years of experience working with programs related to warehouse operations, material control and distribution, material handling tools and equipment. Must have excellent computer skills and familiarity with word processing, spreadsheet and database software, the ability to interface and communicate effectively with personnel inside and outside the organization. High School/GED with training and experience in tool repair and/or material handling/material control. Ability to obtain and maintain valid Virginia driver license.
