Job Summary:

The Assurance Managing Director, Accounting Advisory & Outsourcing will have significant accounting advisory client service experience along with recent executive-level corporate finance experience and shall be deeply knowledgeable of accounting rules and related regulatory frameworks. This leader is expected to serve as a liaison between the BDO's ARAS and TAS practices for collaboration and cross-functional selling opportunities and BDO's national office to coordinate on accounting positions and quality assurance requirements. Additionally, this position will promote Firm risk management policies and enforce accountability on complex accounting and related risk matters within the ARAS and TAS business lines.

This leader will be required to demonstrate good business judgment and the ability to think strategically, have a strong leadership presence that creates a high sense of accountability and integrity throughout the Firm, succinctly articulate complex accounting issues to finance and non-finance audiences alike, and give practical advice by balancing risks and being able to make and defend difficult decisions. This individual will have nation-wide responsibilities to provide TAS partners, engagement teams, and clients with timely, high-quality, risk-based, and profitable accounting and reporting assistance as well as be responsible for building out a team within ARAS to further and more extensively serve the Firm's TAS business line.

Job Duties:

Engagement team and client support:



  • Provides transaction-oriented accounting and reporting assistance primarily to BDO's M&A-TAS practice

    • Scope: all industries and all areas of accounting and reporting, with an initial focus on mid-market software and technology clients and clients impacted by recently issued not yet effective accounting standards such as revenue recognition and leases
    • Writes and/or reviews accounting due diligence findings on topics that include but are not limited to deal risks, accounting operations, financial statements, accounting policies and internal controls, significant contracts, purchase price and working capital adjustments, and financial integration

  • Collaborates and coordinates closely with BDO's Professional Practice Group through BDO's ARAS practice on complex accounting matters and identify expansion opportunities and cross sell offerings on existing projects and clients
  • Discusses accounting findings, risks, and opportunities with management, those charged with governance, and other third parties, as applicable
  • Assists TAS engagement teams and relationship leaders with managing accounting and reporting risks by being a primary point of contact for all complex accounting and reporting issues and questions


Risk Management:



  • Collaborates business line partners, quality and risk leaders on accounting consultations and aid with responses to specific incidents, breaches, or conflicts
  • Assists with managing risk to the firm and its personnel by adhering to the requirements of regulatory bodies including the SEC, PCAOB, and AICPA


Intellectual capital development:



  • Maintains and provide accounting and finance subject matter expertise
  • Demonstrates, authors, and communicates TAS thought leadership
  • Contributes to the development of firm guidance and quality assurance policies and practices
  • Conducts research and benchmarking for client delivery and business development needs


Practice development:



  • Speaks on behalf of the firm at major finance and accounting events and industry groups
  • Actively participates in recruiting efforts of service line leaders and staff
  • Monitors and enforces engagement quality oversight and consultation
  • Designs and delivers internal training, learning, and development
  • Provides staff coaching and mentoring
  • Monitors and maintains financial risk management policies and practices


Business development:



  • Identifies opportunities for clients or the firm
  • Uses social media to promote the accomplishments and practices of the firm and its people
  • Leads or supports pursuit and proposal development efforts
  • Leads or supports strategic marketing initiatives
  • Designs and implements appropriate key strategic decisions that help the firm gain a competitive advantage
  • Proactively participates in, and in many cases lead, major practice development efforts
  • Identifies scope expansion on current projects


Client development:



  • Becomes driving force in becoming preferred service provider
  • Provides complex accounting and finance-related training and presentations to key client stakeholders
  • Leverages people and talent networks to solve client and stakeholder needs


Relationship development:



  • Leads professional development share forums
  • Provides leadership advisory support to key client or third-party relationships
  • Identifies and connects potential recruiting and placement opportunities with friends and stakeholders of the firm
  • Leads or supports charitable endeavors and community service support in accordance with firm values


Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Education:



  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Marketing, or Economics, required
  • Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, Marketing, or Economics, preferred


Experience:



  • Ten (10) or more years of professional experience in public accounting or related field, required
  • Three (3) or more years of supervisory experience, required
  • Ten (10) or more years of GAAP, required and GAAS, and Sarbanes-Oxley, preferred
  • Three (3) or more years of experience supporting risk management, intellectual capital development, practice and business development, preferred


License/Certifications:



  • CPA, required


Software:



  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook, required
  • Experience with various assurance applications and research tools, required


Language:



  • N/A


Other Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:



  • Strong leadership and management skills
  • Superior written and verbal communications skills
  • Advanced knowledge of technical aspects of TAS
  • This role requires a strong accounting background as a significant component of being able to develop and execute on the strategy and development of the team is contingent on a strong technical accounting background
  • Ability to be flexible


Individual salaries that are offered to a candidate are determined after consideration of numerous factors including but not limited to the candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, and geography.

National Range: $240,000 - $260,000
Maryland Range: $240,000 - $260,000
NYC/Long Island/Westchester Range: $240,000 - $260,000
