State Tax Accountant - Income Tax & Premium Tax

As a member of our Corporate Tax Department, you will play a crucial role in preparing state income tax returns and premium tax returns, ensuring they meet the highest standards of accuracy and compliance You will also provide invaluable assistance with monthly and quarterly tax reporting, working closely with various team members to deliver timely and precise results.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Prepares state income tax returns and premium tax returns for review by Tax Consultant and Tax Director.
  • Provides assistance to various members of the Corporate Tax Department with monthly and quarterly tax reporting.
  • Assists with Federal and State Compliance. Assists with calculating tax provision for quarterly financial statements.
  • Assists with conducting research regarding federal and state withholding and tax reporting laws and presents to various members of the Corporate tax department for review and interpretation

Qualifications:

  • Understanding of Statutory and GAAP accounting principles and requirements. CPA designation preferred but not required.
  • Strong communication/influence skills to establish favorable relationships with external consultants, auditors, and Home Office associates.
  • Analytical and creative ability to develop ideas that result in lower taxes for the company and its subsidiaries.
  • Initiative and independence to prioritize projects, handle multiple projects, and meet deadlines.
  • Successful track record in a 4-year degree program with an Accounting major or 2-year degree with related experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Federal tax law, especially as it relates to life and P&C insurance companies, to calculate tax liability and conduct tax planning.

The estimated base pay range for this job is:

$56,000.00 - $103,000.00

Pay may vary depending on job-related factors and individual experience, skills, knowledge, etc. More information on base pay and incentive pay (if applicable) can be discussed with a with a member of the Securian Financial Talent Acquisition team.
