Job Summary:
Under the general supervision of the Associate Director of Human Resources in the Division of Recreation and Wellbeing (Rec Well), the HR Generalist will oversee the employee lifecycle for over 1,100 student employees serving in diverse roles, including lifeguards, fitness instructors, summer camp counselors, climbing wall attendants, operations staff, and more. This position plays a critical role in student recruitment, hiring, onboarding, appointment auditing, compliance (including I-9's, youth protection policies, background checks), and offboarding.
Additionally, this position serves as the divisional payroll and benefits coordinator for all Rec Well employees, managing benefits enrollment, compliance, and counseling employees on payroll, leave and benefit options. This role will have the opportunity to supervise HR student hourly staff, communicate policies, provide guidance, and drive efficiency across Rec Well's HR operations. The HR Generalist will have the opportunity to contribute to strategic projects, support organizational goals and Workday system stabilization.
The HR Generalist is part of an HR team that serves as a point of contact for our 1,200+ employees, including university staff, academic staff, leadership team, temporary employees, and student hourly staff.
Responsibilities:
Provides human resources (HR) information and support to a work unit regarding more than one HR functional area to ensure timely and accurate transaction processing. Maintains personnel records and assists with work unit operational policy development.
- 15% Provides consultation, performs analytics, and/or maintains personnel files, communications, and materials for work unit through various mediums
- 25% Executes and audits work transactions and changes adhering to established policies and procedures to meet anticipated deadlines
- 25% Receives, responds to, and resolves employee questions and problems
- 5% Represents unit/program at institutional workshops, informational meetings, and training sessions
- 10% Contributes to the development, implementation, interpretation, and revision of work unit Human Resources policies and procedures according to institutional and legal rules and regulations
- 20% Serves as divisional payroll and benefits coordinator

Education:
Required Associate's Degree
Preferred Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience preferred
Qualifications:
Required qualifications: -Minimum of one year of relevant human resources experience -Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word & Excel -Experience interpreting and applying HR policies and procedures -Strong attention to detail and decision-making abilities -Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with students, staff, and supervisors -Ability to establish priorities, organize varied and complex tasks and workload -Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team -Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships -Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information with tact and discretion
Preferred qualifications: -At least two years of relevant human resources experience -Experience with performing payroll related tasks -Experience with an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, preferably Workday

Salary:
Minimum $53,000 ANNUAL (12 months) Depending on Qualifications The minimum salary for this position is $53,000. The expected salary range for this position is $55,000 up to $63,000 for highly experienced candidates. Actual pay will depend on experience and qualifications.
