ENERGY SYSTEMS GROUP is looking for a Field Manager, Maintenance & Reliability to join our Operations Services team. The position is remote, but ideally close to an ESG Operations Services location with frequent travel of up to 75% to project locations. The Field Manager (Manager), Maintenance & Reliability (M&R) works with the Director, Operations Services (Director) to lead the strategy, development, and implementation of M&R programs, and provides technical leadership and support for all of ESG's Operations Services facilities. The Manager optimizes the reliability and efficiency of utility equipment and systems to maximize value to our customers and stakeholders. This individual must have technical knowledge of and practical experience with processes and equipment related to steam generation and distribution, hot water, chilled water, electrical power generation, HVAC, plant and building automation, and supporting systems. This individual needs to be able to think and plan strategically yet also operate in a "hands on" manner. The Manager will need to balance multiple tasks and priorities, display the flexibility to support plant operations, and perform with a sense of urgency. The essential functions of the position include:
- Leads M&R Programs
- Develops, implements, and optimizes predictive and preventive M&R programs and technologies to improve overall plant reliability and efficiency
- Works with the Director to develop or enhance site PM initiatives
- Using up to date best practices, develops and implements operating and maintenance processes, Standard Operating Procedures (SdOP), practices, and training
- When required, reviews and trends equipment performance, control system data, CMMS equipment data, etc. to identify and prioritize reliability improvement initiatives and projects
- Works with site managers to identify major and chronic issues, establishes site-specific short-term, and long-term improvement plans, and develop or enhance site PM initiatives
- Provided Project Support
- Provides support to capital projects at plant sites, which includes assistance to develop scope, design, installation, start-up and commissioning of equipment and processes
- Provides support to ESG's operating sites to assure dependable, reliable, safe and efficient operation of all power generation, utility and HVAC equipment, which includes scope development, solution identification, design, and calculations; mainly accomplished through coordination of third party engineers
- When needed, process studies to optimize or enhance process operating parameters and strategies to improve reliability and efficiency
- When needed, coordinates work with contractors, equipment suppliers, and other outside agencies
- Provides Technical Leadership and Support
- Partners with site managers to establish both short-term and long-term recapitalization plans for all locations to address equipment end of life and obsolescence
- Partners with site manager to identify and coordinate technical training and coaching to technicians in the effective operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of company facilities, processes, and equipment
- Assists the business units and local management in the start-up of new sites including commissioning and establishing operations procedures and maintenance programs
- Benchmarks the industry and keeps abreast of best practices for the purpose of identifying technologies and practices to improve cost, plant operations and customer satisfaction.
- Identifies internal best practices and leads implementations across ESG sites
- Serves as role model for achieving world class safety performance including identifying and executing improvements at the sites, ensuring safe sub-contractor performance, providing technical training to technicians, conducting Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), investigating / resolving safety incidents, and ensuring equipment complies with all regulatory (including EPA, OSHA) and company requirements
- Provides Site Support
- Partners with site leadership to ensure the sites meet all objectives and requirements in the areas of safety, environmental, financial performance, customer satisfaction, employee development, plant efficiency and reliability
- Leads or supports major and/or complex equipment repairs at sites
- Leads and/or assists local management with troubleshooting and root cause investigations for major plant and equipment issues and ensures corrective and preventive actions are taken
- Assists sites in planning and executing turnarounds and shutdowns as needed
- Can serve as back up or assistant to local site management as required
Your background includes:
- Five (5) years' progressive maintenance and engineering experience in power generation, utility plants, or large-scale industrial facility
- Five (5) years' experience managing large maintenance or engineering organizations
- Demonstrated experience driving continuous improvement programs across an organization
A bonus to have:
- Experience and training in the principles of preventive and predictive maintenance, reliability programs, and reliability centered maintenance and methodologies
- Subject matter expert in one or more of the following: Maintenance and reliability practices, Building/Industrial Automation and Controls, Central Energy Plants (electrical power, steam, heating hot water, combined heat and power, chilled water, compressed air, compressed air, compressed air, etc.), Distribution Systems (electrical power, steam, heating hot water, chilled water, compressed air, ventilation and space conditioning, etc.), Renewable Energy (solar, digesters, landfill)
- Practical experience applying Continuous Improvement methods such as Root Cause Analysis, Six Sigma, 5-S, and/or Lean techniques
- Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional; Certified Energy Manager
- Licensed Power Engineer, Stationary Engineer, or equivalent
