Position Purpose |
The Director of Academic Operations oversees and coordinates the business operations impacting academic operations of the Dean of Faculty Division within the School of Arts & Sciences. The Director ensures the effective administration of faculty data, policies, and a range of internal procedures. This role works closely with the Dean's leadership team, including: the Associate Deans, Senior Advisor for Faculty Development, Diversity & Inclusion, the Assistant Dean for Faculty Affairs, and the Director of Budget & Finance. The Director serves as a key liaison between faculty, Divisional Coordinators, and administrative staff, facilitating smooth operations across the Dean of Faculty Division. |

- Bachelor's degree required.
- 10+ years of experience in academic administration, preferably in a higher education setting.
- Supervisory experience with demonstrated ability to manage teams and collaborate across departments/programs.
- Strong understanding of faculty policies, academic operations, and administrative procedures.
- Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Experience with a variety of software systems and technologies to support academic administration.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact tactfully and effectively with faculty, staff, and administrators.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain strict confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.

- Master's degree preferred.
- Experience working in a leadership role within an academic institution.
- Experience implementing workflow and process improvements in an academic setting.

Policy Implementation and Operations
- Supervise the Assistant Director of Academic Operations to enhance the efficiency and clarity of business operations.
- Manage and coordinate the implementation of administrative procedures contained in the Faculty Handbook.
- Support faculty and deans with factual information regarding salaries, sabbaticals, teaching loads, and related matters
- Manage and maintain the library of standard operating procedures to support consistent application of faculty policies across the several academic divisions.
- Provide guidance to faculty on the salary implications of leaves, grants, and fellowships.

Description |
Communication and Coordination
- Maintain and monitor the regular schedule of communications to faculty from the Dean of Faculty, ensuring timely dissemination and follow-up.
- In partnership with the Associate Deans, coordinate activities and communications with Divisional Coordinators, gathering their input on procedures and informing them of upcoming adjustments.
- Collaborate with data/IT teams to implement system updates and improve reporting structures.
- Serve as a resource for departments and programs with questions regarding procedures, ensuring consistency and clarity across departments, programs, and divisions.
- Proactively identify areas for improvement in workflows and clarity of instructions for multiple constituents (faculty, staff, administrative leaders)

Description |
Data Management and Reporting
- Generate and analyze reports as requested by the Dean of Faculty leadership to support decision-making.
- Manage the processes and technical systems that support annual departmental teaching reviews and annual salary-setting processes.
- Ensure data integrity and facilitate access to accurate and timely information for faculty and administrators.
- Liaise with Human Resources as needed, particularly in relation to data management.
