Automation Controls Engineer, Easton, PA
GENERAL SUMMARY:
Enable the design and development of world class assembly and packaging equipment in support of Crayola's long term manufacturing strategy. Must be a subject matter expert in the areas of Programmable Logic Controllers, robotics systems, complex Servo Motion control, HMI and programmable VFD drives. The incumbent will lead all phases of control system development from inception to qualification across all Crayola facilities. Work simultaneously on multiple projects and will provide electrical/controls engineering expertise in support of the new equipment and systems through multi-disciplinary collaboration internal and external to Crayola.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Leads the design, development and implementation of automation electrical control strategies through integration utilizing Rockwell/Allen Bradley PLC platform, HMI, VFD drives and advanced Servo Motion control systems.
- Researches, prototypes and recommends novel control and sensor technologies capable of high level performance in a continuous demanding manufacturing environment.
- Responsible for capital project budget control, management communication and adherence to project timelines.
- Works collaboratively with other functions during the technical development, launch and continuing refinement of the automation solutions programs.
- Applies advanced subject matter knowledge and is regarded as a technical subject matter expert for automation systems
- Program, design robotics pick and place and assembly systems.
- Creates control logic strategy and User Interface applications.
- Develops schematics detailing control system configuration and wiring, design equipment panel layouts and BOM on AutoCAD software.
- Responsible for start-up and debug of integrated systems.
- Creates system documentation and training programs.
- Develop cost estimates for the control system integration working with outside suppliers, integrators and in-house clients.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering required preferably in an electrical or electronic field.
- 5 years of experience in leading the electrical and advanced controls design for highly automated production equipment.
- Expert in programming and configuring in Rockwell/Allen Bradley ControlLogix PLC, Factory View HMI, and CIP/Sercos based motion controls and VFD drives.
- Expert in designing and creating complex, detailed electrical designs and BOM using AutoCAD and/or software such as Solid Works.
- Advanced skill in debugging packaging, assembly and process controls systems.
- Experienced in the design and configuration of industrial networking systems such as Devicenet, Ethernet.
- Expert in PLC debugging and using various controls software.
- Knowledgeable in Analog communication configuration and design between industrial devices.
- Must have application knowledge of NEC and NFPA codes.
- Ability to work with 460 VAC 3PH circuits and ability to safely work with high voltage 35KV power for ITM and Preventative Maintenance.
- As needed support of manufacturing equipment troubleshooting across all shifts.
- May require travel and work Saturday, Sunday and holidays as required by project demand.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk and hear. The employee is required to walk; use hands and fingers to operate, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. May require working outside in severe weather.
