The Environmental, Health, and Safety (EH&S) Leader is responsible for leading and managing comprehensive EH&S programs to ensure regulatory compliance, protect employee health and safety, and promote sustainable practices in a manufacturing environment. The EH&S Leader plays a strategic role in fostering a culture of safety and environmental stewardship while aligning with organizational goals. This is an onsite position at our Huntsville facility, typically working Monday-Friday with a 7 AM start time. This role does require the job holder to be on-call to handle after-hour issues. Key Responsibilities Strategic EH&S Leadership:
- Develop, implement, and oversee EH&S strategies, policies, and programs to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations (e.g., OSHA, EPA).
- Serve as a key advisor to senior leadership on EH&S matters and provide guidance on regulatory changes and industry best practices.
- Conduct regular audits and inspections to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with EH&S standards
Safety Management:
- Lead workplace safety initiatives, including risk assessments, hazard identification, and incident prevention programs.
- Develop and deliver safety training programs tailored to various employee groups.
- Ensure consistent enforcement of safety protocols and foster a safety-first culture across the organization.
Environmental Compliance and Sustainability:
- Oversee compliance with environmental permits and regulations related to air quality, waste management, and water usage.
- Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to minimize environmental impact and improve sustainability practices.
- Identify opportunities to reduce the environmental footprint of manufacturing operations through energy efficiency, waste reduction, and other sustainability initiatives.
- Prepare and submit accurate regulatory reports and maintain comprehensive documentation.
Incident and Risk Management:
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses to determine root causes and implement corrective actions.
- Manage incident reporting processes and ensure timely communication with internal stakeholders and regulatory agencies.
- Develop and oversee emergency response and preparedness plans.
Continuous Improvement:
- Identify opportunities for improving EH&S processes and programs.
- Drive continuous improvement in EH&S programs by analyzing performance metrics and benchmarking against industry standards.
- Lead cross-functional teams to identify and implement innovative EH&S solutions.
- Promote employee engagement and participation in EH&S initiatives.
Team Management and Development:
- Supervise and mentor EH&S staff, ensuring professional growth and alignment with organizational objectives.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for EH&S-related matters within the facility.
- Collaborate with department heads and other stakeholders to integrate EH&S priorities into operational plans.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in environmental science, Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum of 4-6 years of progressive EH&S experience in a manufacturing environment, including management-level responsibilities.
- Extensive knowledge of applicable safety and environmental regulations (OSHA, EPA, etc.).
- Experience in risk management and mitigation.
- Demonstrated success in leading EH&S programs and driving cultural change.
- Strong analytical, leadership, and communication skills.
- Ability to use and interpret safety laws, rules, and regulations.
- Proficient in Microsoft office Suite.
- Certifications such as CSP (Certified Safety Professional), CIH (Certified Industrial Hygienist), or equivalent are strongly preferred.
- Must have a valid Driver's license and clean driving record, in order to operate company vehicles.
- Required to be on-call to handle after-hour facility issues.
Work Environment:
- This is a full-time onsite position based in a manufacturing facility and may involve exposure to industrial equipment, noise, and varying temperatures.
- Travel may be required to support company initiatives, audits, or training.
