Description
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Manager, General Accounting, to oversee the day-to-day operations of our general accounting department. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in financial accounting, managing the general ledger and working with accounting software, account and subledger reconciliation, and managing a team of accountants. This individual should be able to operate effectively in a large, complex company with many stakeholders. This role will focus on ensuring the accuracy of financial records. The Manager, General Accounting will supervise senior and staff accountants, review their work, and ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and reporting standards. The Manager, General Accounting will also manage the monthly close process to ensure the accuracy of the organization's financial results, establish key financial controls, and ensure proper execution of these controls within the monthly closing process. The Manager, General Accounting will report to the Director, General Accounting.
Qualifications
Minimum Education Bachelor's Degree Accounting, Finance, or a related field (Required)
Minimum Work Experience 6 years of experience in financial accounting (Required) 1 year in a supervisory or management role within a healthcare or non-profit organization or other large organization. (Required)
Required Skills/Knowledge Intermediate experience with MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, and PowerPoint. Experience with PeopleSoft is a plus Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage and develop a team of accounting professionals. Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with senior management, auditors, and other stakeholders. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting. Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work efficiently in a fast-paced hospital environment. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Required Licenses and Certifications Active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or actively seeking CPA license (Preferred)
Functional Accountabilities General Ledger and Month-End Close
- Oversee the reconciliation of all general ledger accounts, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of journal entries. Ensure that all discrepancies are identified and resolved promptly.
- Perform management functions within the general ledger and subledgers, including but not limited to opening and closing the accounting period, creating or inactivating GL accounts, managing user access, clearing errors, and working with IT and third parties to troubleshoot issues.
- Help manage the preparation and timely delivery of monthly, quarterly, and annual internal reporting. Prepare ad hoc analyses and reporting as necessary. Manage and ensure the accuracy of reporting tools.
- Ensure accounting records are in accordance with U.S. GAAP. Ensure controls that are the responsibility of the accounting team are implemented and operating effectively.
- Lead the reconciliation process and be responsible for the accuracy of interfaces for any subledger systems or modules with the general ledger, including areas such as payroll and benefits. Investigate and resolve discrepancies.
- Work closely with other departments to ensure smooth operations, accurate financial information, and timely delivery of reports. Collaborate with external auditors and tax preparers as needed.
Team Leadership & Development
- Supervise and mentor senior and staff accountants, review their work, provide guidance, and ensure that deadlines are met. Conduct performance reviews and assist with professional development opportunities. Assess and manage team workload.
- Perform administrative functions for direct reports, such as hiring and termination. Coordinate with Human Resource as needed.
Internal Controls and Process Improvement
- Ensure all accounting activities adhere to internal controls, regulatory requirements, and company policies. Assist in internal and external audits as needed.
- Review and recommend changes to accounting policies and procedures.
- Continuously evaluate and improve processes related to general ledger and subledger management and report to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and compliance.
