THE POSITION

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

Custodial workers perform routine manual tasks to maintain cleanliness in public institutional buildings and surrounding areas. The role involves using custodial supplies and modern cleaning equipment and may require moving or lifting heavy furniture. Duties follow a consistent schedule and are regularly inspected to ensure high standards of cleanliness are met. This position is ideal for someone who is positive, reliable, and takes pride in keeping spaces clean while supporting others.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 7.5 hours per day, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 2nd shift (2:00 PM to 10:00 PM), Sunday - Saturday. The schedule includes alternating weekends and a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Qualifications (not required):

  • Willing to work in Scranton, Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania
  • Work hours for this job are a full-time schedule, from 2:00 PM - 10:00 PM
  • Work experience as a custodian, janitor, or cleaning person, in an assisted living facility, nursing home, or hospital is preferred. (Experience might include such things as cleaning restrooms; cleaning resident rooms, offices or public areas; mopping, scrubbing, dusting, sweeping, and buffing.)
  • Work experience interacting with patients or residents while cleaning in patient/resident rooms or a dining room setting
  • Work experience cleaning bodily fluids and disposing infectious waste into proper storage areas
  • Work experience removing snow, trash and debris from sidewalks and entrance ways
  • Work experience using and mixing chemicals or solvents
  • Work experience using manual or power equipment to mop, scrub, sweep, strip, wax, and buff floors
  • Custodial work experience in an activity/recreation room, bathroom/shower or bathing room, cafeteria/dining room setting, entranceway/lobby/common space, nursing station, patient/resident rooms, pharmacy, or physical therapy rooms

Legal Requirements:

  • A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
    • Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.
