The expected hiring range for this position is: $30.45-$39.37.

About the Role:
The
Environmental, Safety, and Health Section is responsible for ensuring that Fermilab's employees and natural resources remain unharmed. At Fermilab, we make every effort to integrate environmental consideration into our offices and experiments. We provide safety training to all Fermilab employees. We also ensure that employees are not overexposed to hazardous materials and provide on-site medical service.
Fermilab's Environmental, Safety, and Health Department (ESH) is seeking a Radiological Controls Senior Technician (RCT). Under general supervision, provides moderately complex technical support for an area of assignment, and performs ESH duties including environmental surveys, waste disposal, and radiological surveys. What your day-to-day as a Radiological Controls Senior Technician (RCT) at Fermilab will look like:
- Perform periodic ("snoop") surveys and routine corrective measures for violations found.
- Perform opening surveys with an experienced RCT and recognize the required postings needed in areas.
- Perform environmental sampling of sumps.
- Under direct supervision provide coverage of RCT Coverage/RWP jobs.
- Perform posting audits.
- Exchange instruments for calibration.
- Participate in down-posting and clearance surveys.
- Dummy hiding for search & secure QA checks.
- Assist in beam-on surveys.
- Assist Senior RCT in field decontamination (area or personnel).
- Exchange area monitor badges as requested.
- Re-stock PPE stations as needed.
- General understanding of the FRCM and requirements.
- Assist Senior RCT in radiography jobs.
- With limited supervision provide coverage of Highly Radioactive jobs.
- Help in developing shielding plans and dose reduction for ALARA jobs.
- Sampling RAW systems.
- JULIE/Excavation postings/surveys.
- Perform MMR surveys.
- Performs/leads down-posting and clearance surveys.
- Perform rad waste surveys and assist others in filling out paperwork.
- Involved in trend analysis.
Skills and Attributes for Success:
- High School Degree or GED with 7+ years of work experience or equivalent or 5+ years of experience at a Department of Energy laboratory.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to interface effectively with the Laboratory user/visitor community and employees
- Have an interest in radiation safety/protection, particle accelerators and their operations
- Must be flexible and able to quickly adjust to new or changing projects/tasks
- Proven track record to function independently, demonstrating self-motivation an initiative.
