Park Land Resources Operations Manager

Full-time, Hybrid

Salary Range: $81,328.00 - $96,907.20/yr

Job Summary

Responsible for effective oversight and management of natural and land resources, quality maintenance and safety of park properties and infrastructure. Provides quality customer service to guests and patrons, preserves and enhances department assets, and ensures quality service and product delivery.

Job Responsibilities



  • Park and Facility Management - Manage, maintain, and operate facilities by developing maintenance management plans and operating standards. Participate in capital development planning; manage equipment inventories; and assist with contract monitoring.
  • Personnel Management - Participate in and recommend hiring of staff. Provide daily supervision including job assignments, performance appraisals, training, and workforce development. Establish priorities to ensure the success of the division and overall Parks' strategies.
  • Administration - Process purchase requests, inventory supplies, process work orders, review contracts and agreements. Assist with project management and priorities. Prepare specialized plans, reports and audits; maintain logs. Ensure relevant safety codes and regulations are followed.
  • Equipment Maintenance - Inspect and maintain all equipment and tools related to the performance of job duties.
  • Customer Service and Outreach - Engage and provide field support to partners, Friends, and volunteers. Assist in scheduling and providing resources and job assignments for volunteer groups. Assist with special event planning and implementation.
  • Budget Management - Prepare and monitor annual division budget to ensure responsible fiscal management.
  • Special Assignments and Projects - Participate on special project teams, community outreach efforts, marketing and communication efforts.
  • Ability to properly or safely operate: vehicles, hand tools, power tools, computers and general office equipment.
  • Ability to push, pull, carry and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Required Education, License/Certification and Experience



  • Current residency within the State of Wisconsin upon application required
  • Valid Wisconsin Driver's License required and must be maintained throughout employment
  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalency required
  • Five (5) years or more work experience in Parks, Land Resources, Horticulture or Landscape Maintenance required
  • Three (3) years or more work experience in a Supervisory or Management role required
  • First Aid certification required or must be obtained within six (6) months of hire
  • Wisconsin DATCP Category 6.0 (Right-of-Way and Natural Areas) Pesticide Applicator certification required or must be obtained within six (6) months of hire
  • Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) required or must be obtained within six (6) months of hire
  • Basic knowledge of all related computer and software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Teams required


Preferred Education, License/Certification and Experiences



  • Associate degree or higher in Parks & Recreation, Horticulture or closely related field preferred
  • Certified Park and Recreational Professional (CPRP) certification preferred
