Description

While safety-minded, this role will be responsible for producing finished components by sewing and/or upholstering seat, back and headrest cushions. May be required to cut own fabric and/or vinyl according to patterns and apply/spray glue to foam and plastic components. In addition, you will rotate through our assembly process and assemble chair components delivering a high-quality product to our customers.

This full-time position reports directly to the designated Production Supervisor and is located at Safco's manufacturing plant in Milford, IA.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Operate sewing machines to sew seams, top-stitching and join various sections of covering material.
  • Upholster chair seats and backs using foam padding to form smooth rounded surfaces.
  • Fit, install, and secure material on chair seats and backs, using hand tools, power tools, glue, and/or staples.
  • Read and interpret: a measuring tape, verify correct work order materials and labor times, pattern dimensions, quality standards.
  • Spray and apply glue to individual components with no wrinkles or air pockets
  • Knowledge of fabrics and upholstery using hydraulic presses or free hand.
  • Measure and cut fabric and/or vinyl, using patterns, measuring and cutting instruments, following standard patterns and design specifications.
  • Use industrial steamer as required for vinyl, crushed foam, and wrinkled fabric
  • Read work orders, and apply knowledge and experience with materials in order to upholster to Safco quality and standard methods.
  • Wear appropriate safety glasses and protective equipment as required: metal glove for operation of hand saw, assistance with heavy rolls of fabric/vinyl.
  • Light assembly of seating and chair components
  • Other duties, as assigned

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Must work well in a team environment with ability to communicate and manage own behavior and maintain a positive and respectful attitude.
  • Ability to understand basic mechanical and manufacturing techniques.
  • Basic computer knowledge and ability to operate a computer and access programs, make transactions, and solve simple computer functions.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail

PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • Sewing and Upholstery Experience a plus, but not required.
  • Experience with Power Tools preferred

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

The starting pay rate for this position is $19.50 per hour. The compensation posted is the anticipated pay for the position at the time of the posting. We may pay above or below posted amount based on several factors, including, but not limited to education and/or certifications, skills, experience, or work location. Some positions may qualify for additional compensation in the form of bonuses.
