Astrion has an exciting opportunity for a driven and detail-oriented Junior Information System Security Engineer (ISSE) to join our Cyber Operations team. This is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in both on-premise and cloud security environments supporting Astrion's corporate systems as well as mission-critical customer workloads across commercial and Department of Defense (DoD) sectors.

JOB SUMMARY

As a Junior ISSE at Astrion, you'll work closely with a collaborative team of seasoned engineers and analysts who are passionate about defending systems and data. You'll gain deep, practical experience in implementing and maintaining security compliance based on NIST 800-171 and NIST 800-53 standards-core frameworks for commercial and government cybersecurity programs.

You'll play a key role in monitoring and enhancing Astrion's security posture, helping to secure infrastructure across multiple environments. From contributing to vulnerability management efforts to supporting risk mitigation strategies, your work will directly impact the integrity and security of our operations.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Administer compensation programs such as short-term incentives and track them to completion.

  • Administration of leave programs, ensuring compliance.

  • Benefits administration assistance throughout the year, including ongoing meetings with benefit carriers and handling any outstanding issues and ensuring resolution for employees.

  • Benefits billing administration monthly.

  • Monitoring status of new hire enrollments, qualifying life events and assisting employees as needed to ensure compliance and completion.

  • Preparing bi-weekly list of payroll-related items to ensure any benefit deductions are updated accordingly and timely.

  • Checking for any data discrepancies between benefits portal and HRIS/payroll on a weekly basis and working on resolution of any system or data issues.

  • Support the development and communication of total rewards programs to employees.

  • Ad-hoc requests as needed.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, an excellent writer, and able to clearly present ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences. You should be comfortable working independently, proactively solving problems, and delivering strong customer service in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • A bachelor's or master's degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a similar field.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Secret clearance (at a minimum).
  • Ability to obtain CompTIA Security+ certification within 6 months of employment.
  • 1-2 years of experience or education in IT, cybersecurity, or a related technical field (including internships, coursework, bootcamps, or self-study).
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity fundamentals (e.g., threats, vulnerabilities, risk).
  • Basic knowledge of tools like Nessus, Defender, or similar.
  • Offensive or Defensive Security techniques.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • A collaborative mindset and eagerness to learn.
  • Offensive or Defensive Security techniques.
  • Customer-service focused at all times and career/growth-oriented.
  • Ability to learn and adapt to changing information and environments.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS

  • Current Secret security clearance with SCI eligibility.
  • A relevant certification (e.g., Security+, Network+, CEH).
  • Exposure to ticketing systems or IT operations.
  • Interest and experience in scripting or automation (e.g., PowerShell, Python).
  • Operating System Certification (Windows, Linux, Unix, etc.)
  • Penetration Testing, Certified Ethical Hacking (CEH), or Vulnerability Management
  • Artificial intelligence and machine learning systems
  • DODD 8500.1, DODI 8500.2, and other information assurance (IA) guidance
