Astrion has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to support operations at the Acoustic Research Detachment at Lake Pend Oreille in Bayview Idaho. ARD Bayview is a Navy Test Range that supports the signature advantage of Navy submarines, surface ships and underwater vehicles through the use of unique, cost-effective test facilities.
At ARD, successful candidates will be part of a multi-disciplinary team planning and executing complex testing of surface and underwater systems using static test facilities, towed platforms, and remotely controlled large scale models of current and future Naval platforms.

These tests further our understanding of hydroacoustics, structural acoustics, radiated and reflected noise, and advanced propulsion systems and support development of the Navy's most complex systems.

TRAVEL: 5%

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS

  • Bachelor's degree inMechanical Engineering from an accredited college or university;
  • U.S. Citizenship and Secret personnel security clearance (PCL)

  • Must have or be able to obtain a DoD SECRET security clearance
    1. Leading mechanical engineering system design and development projects and testing practices in mechanical system support, including: engineering requirements development, engineering concept development and cost trade-offs.
    2. Engineering design analysis for stress, load, heat transfer and vibration. Performing non-linear finite element modeling.
    3. Development of engineering reports, diagrams, and mechanical drawings of complex systems, material specification and manufacturing analysis.
    4. Compliance with mechanical system safety practices, commercial and military specifications and codes for mechanical and structural design requirements, fall protection, confined space, LOTO, etc.
    5. Proficiency with Solid Works or other similar 3D modeling software.
    6. Development of procedures sufficient for all levels of technicians, machinists, welders, and fabricators to successfully accomplish the tasks assigned to them.
    7. Maintenance planning and execution of submarine mechanical systems, including; propulsion, ballast, steering & diving, air, and hydraulic systems.
    8. Knowledge of Submarine Safety Program (SUBSAFE) and systems including; pressure control boundaries, piping systems, high-pressure air systems, control systems, and flood control systems.

      10 years of experience as a Mechanical Engineer which includes some experience in all of the following areas:

    9. Knowledge of weld engineering, structural engineering, ocean engineering, and mechanical system fabrication. Knowledge of underwater acoustics.
