Idaho National Laboratory is hiring an Operations Staff Specialist to work on the SMC Operations Team. This position will work a 4x10 schedule located out at our SMC facility with every Friday off. You will report to the SMC Operations Manager.

The SMC Operations Staff Specialist will be responsible for tracking and reporting on Operations Metrics. Provide support for project execution activities which include reviews of routine and abnormal operating procedures and operational events or design activities with respect to the facility safety basis. Must be fluent in the USQ process and oversee USQ process for the facility. Must be qualified or obtain qualification as a Nuclear Facility Manager. Candidate should have working knowledge of plant systems and components to facilitate oversight and input during facility Lockout Tagouts.

Responsibilities Include:

* Plan, schedule, and lead assessments. This includes providing guidance and direction to various personnel tasked to support the assessments.

* Identify risks that might jeopardize management system outcomes and develop assurance plans and schedules to ensure effective mitigation of those risks.

* Provide analysis to key leaders to improve performance.

* Interface directly with and providing work direction for safe and compliant completion of scheduled work activities related to operations, including following procedural requirements, instructions, and work control.

* Ensure assigned personnel have the required training to perform their assigned work and are fit for duty, which includes resolving problems related to personnel, training, and schedule compliance.

* Ensure non-operations personnel in the facilities, and/or involved in operational activities, conduct their activities in a formal and disciplined manner consistent with Conduct of Operations (ConOps) and management procedures.

* Implement and support the continuous improvement of ConOps, ISMS, and HPI programs and procedures

* Maintain facility configuration within the safety basis. Identify hazards and associated mitigations.

* Provide input to and reviews of facility operating documents. Maintain knowledge of facility systems, operating requirements, and administrative and safety limits.

* Review facility modifications and long-range planning to ensure nuclear safety requirements are met.

* Execute the unreviewed safety question (USQ) process for proposed facility and procedure changes.

* Demonstrate the ability to build consensus by articulating the strategic alignment of the organization.

* Develop and revise metrics for use in a dashboard.

* Guide and mentor more junior staff members.

* Other duties as assigned.



Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:



  • Bachelor of Science degree in a technical field from an accredited institution.
  • Bachelor's and 14 years. Master's and 8 years. PhD and 6 years.

  • Relevant experience commensurate with level. Professional experience in an operations capacity or other technical areas.




  • In exceptional circumstances equivalent education and experience may be considered.


  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "Q" clearance, which requires US Citizenship.


Preferred Experience:



  • Advanced degree in technical field (i.e., Nuclear Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering).
  • Familiarity with dashboards including Power BI, SharePoint, Tableau, P6, or others.
  • Knowledge in developing custom products using scripting and programming languages such as R, Python, CSS, JavaScript, etc.


Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this classification, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, bend, and work in an office and field/laboratory environment. The job requires hand/finger dexterity to keyboard or type, handle materials, manipulate tools, and reach with hands and arms. The job requires operation of job-related equipment and driving a vehicle. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds without assistance. Sufficient visual acuity and hearing capacity to perform the essential functions and interact with people is required. Job Information:



  • The pay range for this position is level 5 ($91,008 - $186,588). At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.
