As an Advanced Pharmacy Technician in our community pharmacy setting, you will play a crucial role in supporting the pharmacy team and enhancing patient care. Building on the foundational skills of a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT), you will leverage advanced certifications and experience to provide comprehensive clinical services, optimize workflows, and contribute to the transformation of pharmacy practice. This role offers significant opportunities for professional growth, including leadership and specialized clinical responsibilities.


Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Advanced Prescription Management:

* Accurately process, fill, and label prescriptions, including those requiring prior authorization.

* Manage inventory, ensuring medications are purchased, stored, and dispensed properly.

* Prepare medications for dispensing under the supervision of a pharmacist, with a focus on accuracy and efficiency.

Enhanced Patient Engagement

* Identify and enroll patients in medication synchronization (med sync), ensuring all medications are prepared for pick-up on a single date each month or 90 days.

* Conduct comprehensive monthly follow-up calls with patients to confirm medication needs, discuss changes in medication regimens, and identify potential clinical interventions such as immunizations.

Clinical Support and Services:

* Lead the Medication Therapy Management (MTM) program within the pharmacy.

* Accurately bill, screen, and prepare vaccines; if not immunization certified, perform all other steps to assist the pharmacist.

* Assist the pharmacists in delivering advanced clinical services, including immunizations, medication therapy management (MTM), and chronic disease management.

* Document patient care activities and coordinate with the broader healthcare team to ensure continuity of care.

* Engage in proactive care strategies, identifying potential health issues early and working with pharmacists to implement preventative care measures.

* Obtain and maintain immunization certification to provide supervised direct patient care.

Workflow Optimization and Leadership:

* Contribute to the pharmacy's shift from reactive to proactive patient care by adopting best practices for workflow innovation, including appointment-based models.

* Participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing patient care and operational efficiency.

* Mentor and train pharmacy technicians, fostering a collaborative and educational environment.

* Assist pharmacists in writing technician schedules for the locations.

* Take the lead on processing all vendor returns, assist in all insurance audits, and manage orders for medications and supplies from all vendors.

* Work at multiple Mercyhealth locations as needed.

Promotion of Pharmacy Services

* Be knowledgeable about and promote all pharmacy services offered within the system, including meds to beds, mail order, adherence packaging and specialty pharmacy.

* Proficiently initiate and obtain prior authorizations across all platforms.

Additional Duties:

* Perform other duties as assigned under the direction of the pharmacist.

Education and Experience

High School Diploma or equivalent preferred

Graduate of a pharmacy technician program preferred.

Demonstrated community pharmacy experience.

Certification and Licensure

Pharmacy Technician Licensure required

Advanced Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT-Adv) or equivalent state licensure.

Completion of at least four PTCB assessment-based certificate programs.

Skills and Abilities

Effective communication and customer service skills

Computer skills

Good interpretive/analytical skills for medication dosage calculations, etc.

Ability to multitask and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Proficiency in using pharmacy management software and technology tools.

Willingness to obtain and maintain immunization certification.

Special Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand. The employee is frequently required to walk; use hands to feel, finger, handle, or grasp items for fine motor skills; reach with hands and arms, and talk/ hear. Must be able to crouch or squat to reach items. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Work is performed according to specific procedures and methods, but the incumbent must make minor decisions in order to adapt to routine situations.
