About the opportunity

We are seeking a technically skilled and solution-focused Data Architect to join our growing Data & Business Intelligence team. In this role, you will design, build, and manage the core data architecture that supports reporting, analytics, and data-driven decision making across the organization.

Working closely with business stakeholders, analysts, and technical teams, you will be responsible for creating scalable and efficient data models, developing robust data pipelines, and enabling effective reporting and analysis through modern cloud data platforms. This position is hands-on and execution-focused, requiring strong technical capabilities in data architecture, data engineering, and business intelligence delivery. Additionally, the role will involve managing and integrating structured and unstructured scientific data found in diverse formats such as relational databases, Excel, Word, PDF, and other data files across the organization, ensuring these data sources are accessible and usable for business and analytical needs.

What you will accomplish

  • Design, implement, and optimize enterprise data architecture, including data models, pipelines, and transformation processes.
  • Develop strategies to manage, integrate, and standardize unstructured scientific data from various sources and formats, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Develop and maintain data integration and transformation pipelines using cloud-based technologies, including Microsoft Fabric components such as Data Factory, Spark Notebooks, Data Engineering, and Data Warehouse.
  • Build and optimize data models and datasets to support reporting and self-service analytics using Power BI, including advanced DAX and Power Query techniques.
  • Partner with business users and BI developers to gather requirements and deliver data solutions that enable decision-making across departments.
  • Define and apply best practices for data governance, data quality, metadata management, and security.
  • Monitor and optimize performance, reliability, and scalability of data solutions.
  • Maintain clear documentation of data architecture, data models, processes, and standards.
  • Stay current with advancements in data architecture and cloud analytics platforms and recommend solutions to improve our data environment.

Experience and qualifications for success

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • At least 8 years of experience in data architecture, data engineering, or advanced BI solution development.
  • Strong technical expertise in Microsoft modern cloud data platforms, including hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric components (Data Factory, Spark, Data Engineering, Data Warehouse, Power BI).
  • Advanced knowledge of data modeling, ETL/ELT development, and performance optimization.
  • Proficiency in Power BI, including advanced DAX, Power Query, and dataset design.
  • Understanding of data governance, data privacy, and security best practices.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate business needs into technical solutions.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills for working across business and technical teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certifications in Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, Azure Data Engineering, or related fields.
  • Experience in enterprise data architecture and data pipeline development.
  • Familiarity with additional data analysis and transformation languages (SQL, Python, R).
  • Knowledge of regulatory and compliance frameworks related to data privacy and security.

An employee in this corporate based position can expect a pay rate of $101,088/year - $132,537/year. Actual pay within this range may depend on experience, qualifications, geographic location, client requirements where applicable, and other factors permitted by law. Regular-status employees are also eligible for performance bonuses.
