Labor Relations Manager - Detroit Assembly Complex & Special Projects Lead

As a Labor Relations Manager and Special Projects Lead, you will play a key role in our ability to deliver what we promise to our customers.

You will identify and drive operating efficiencies through contractual agreements, provide labor relations support to employees and leaders across the organization, and enable a positive workplace culture and environment by:



  • Coaching and collaborating with manufacturing leadership and union leadership to remove labor barriers to delivering business objectives
  • Facilitating conflict resolution and difficult discussions with the union leadership
  • Managing and overseeing the grievance process, discipline process, investigations, union pay and absentee management process
  • Driving efficient operations through enforcement of the contractual rights
  • Development and leadership of the labor relations staff
  • Providing training and development to operations management and supervision
  • Advising and counseling management and union on the administration of contractual obligations and commitments
  • Ensuring compliance with joint committee initiatives by management and the union
  • Contributing to the application of our lean manufacturing methodology
  • Leading a team through local negotiations between operating management and local unions
  • This position will also have special projects responsibilities leading key activities for US Labor Relations, including but not limited to: co-leading and managing local bargaining and strikable grievances across all US locations



Key experiences and know-how

The following prior experiences will be required for someone to be successful in this role:



  • Leadership/first chair experience in multiple collective bargaining processes
  • Grievance process management experience
  • Project management experience
  • Interpretation and application of contracts and agreements
  • Building relationships with and working with multiple stakeholders, all of whom have competing agendas, to ensure the most effective solutions are derived
  • Management of compliance and investigatory processes within a union environment
  • Facilitation or participation in difficult interactions or situations, focusing on conflict resolution
  • Analyzing data and using data to make decisions

Basic Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree
  • 10+ years of experience in Human Resources with emphasis in labor relations in a manufacturing setting
  • Proficient with Microsoft Suite



Preferred Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or Industrial Relations
  • Advanced degree with concentration in Human Resources, Industrial Relations or Law
  • Experience managing a team
  • Knowledge of Human Resources Information System and reporting tools
  • Experience working in a lean manufacturing environment
