DESCRIPTION
The Emergency Department (ED) Technician works under the direct supervision of registered nurses (RNs) and supports the interdisciplinary care team in delivering high-quality, compassionate care. As a vital member of the patient care team, the ED Tech performs a variety of clinical and non-clinical tasks to ensure efficient and effective patient care.
- Collect and document patient vital signs and observational data accurately and promptly.
- Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs), ensuring comfort and dignity.
- Collect, label, and transport laboratory specimens in accordance with established protocols.
- Prepare and set up for minor procedures; assist RNs and physicians during procedures and resuscitation efforts.
- Maintain patient and environmental safety, including serving as a sitter when assigned.
- Support patient mobility, including safe transfers and transport to and from care areas.
- Clean, sterilize, and maintain standard and specialized patient care equipment.
- Manage supply logistics, ensuring availability and functionality of medical equipment and supplies.
- Perform clerical and secretarial duties to support patient care coordination, including communication with physicians and other departments.
- Participate in additional responsibilities such as scheduling, supply management, and shared governance committees, as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
BART or BLS at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six (6) months of hire date. Minimum one (1) year of recent experience in an emergency department, psychiatric, or critical care setting. Demonstrates ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment. Excellent interpersonal communication, organizational, and multitasking skills. Commitment to patient safety, confidentiality, and quality care. De-escalation and behavioral management training with a commitment to get CPI within six (6) months of the hire date. Demonstrates computer knowledge and skills.

- Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
- Must be able to work at UCSD East Campus, Hillcrest and La Jolla hospitals. Employees will float between the Emergency Department and Inpatient Departments.
- Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
Pay Transparency Act Annual Full Pay Range: $48,671 - $60,531 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%) Hourly Equivalent: $23.31 - $28.99 Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
