Role Description

Zoetis Reference Laboratories (ZRL) is currently seeking a full time Clinical Pathologist for our Mukilteo, WA location. Remote options will also be considered. For a remote position, a reliable internet connection with consistent download speed of at least 50 Mbps is required. Zoetis Reference Lab is a division of Zoetis Global Diagnostics. Responsibilities of this role primarily include interpretation of cytology, hematology, and protein electrophoresis testing with occasional urinalysis, chemistry, coagulation, and endocrine assessment, and case consultation with veterinarian customers. Zoetis Reference Lab clinical pathologists are also expected to participate in the organization's Quality Management System. The caseload will be a mix of glass slides and digital images from ZRL and our partner service, ZVL (Zoetis Virtual Laboratory). There is also the option to participate in creating and refining laboratory processes, contributing to educational content for customers and ZRL colleagues, and providing external continuing events, if desired. RESPONSIBILITES:
* Cytology reporting - The core focus of the candidate's role will be on comprehensive examination, reporting and consultation of cytology cases. The composition of the caseload is anticipated to be approximately 60% glass slides and 40% digitized slide examination, comprising cases from both ZRL and ZVL.
* CBC and urinalysis pathologist reviews - In addition to the cytology caseload, the position requires examination, reporting and consultation on select CBC and urinalysis cases.

Protein electrophoresis interpretation - This position requires interpretation of urine and protein electrophoresis cases.
* The candidate will also positively interact with the local technician team, supplying feedback on hematology and urinalysis pathologist review cases. Targeted microscopy training and other training will be provided to technician colleagues on an ad hoc basis.
* All ZRL clinical pathologists actively participate in the laboratory's Quality Management System by aiding in general troubleshooting, new test validation, and reporting and/or investigating non-conforming events within core laboratory sections.
* Participation in local customer outreach and education is periodically required. This responsibility includes working with other organizational stakeholders and the ZRL Medical Leadership team to create presentation content, client education materials and/or internal colleague education and training materials.
* Occasional travel for conferences, meetings, trainings and field force events may be required.

QUALIFICATIONS:
* ACVP or ECVP (Clinical Pathology) board certification or board eligibility
* DVM (or equivalent) required
* Formal clinical pathology training - residency or graduate studies (Masters or PhD) in clinical pathology related field
* 2-5 years diagnostic pathology experience preferred
* 1-2 years minimum experience reading digitized slides preferred.

* Strong diagnostic skills in Clinical Pathology, especially cytology and hematology

* Highest level interpersonal skills and ability to work as a collaborative team member

* Flexibility to changing methods and technologies

PHYSICAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
* Able to work hours on a computer and tolerate computer screens
* Able to physically tolerate microscope work, including ability to extend arms/hands and perform rotating movement, and prolonged sitting.
* Able to physically and visually assess digitized slides for evaluation and reporting.
* Required vision abilities include close vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to focus as required to assess glass and digitized slides.
* Ability to effectively conduct phone calls and communicate in person.
* Occasional required movements may include bending, kneeling, crouching.
* May be required to lift, move, carry up to 25 lbs.
