JOB TITLE:

Extension Educator, Associate - Youth Livestock Specialist

JOB PURPOSE:

Extension Educators are part of the University's educational outreach system. In keeping with the University's status as a landgrant institution, Extension Educators form an essential link between the people of Wyoming and the teaching, research, and service missions of the University. The primary function of these employees is to provide non-credit education to an off-campus clientele. Extension Educators provide Wyoming youth, adults, and communities with life-long learning opportunities, especially through the application of research-supported information and leadership skills.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position is responsible for managing and leading statewide educational programs in the areas of animal and equine science, and related educational content.

Provide programmatic and content expertise and consult with program staff, including extension educators, program representatives and campus-based specialists and staff in the areas of animal and equine science; interpret University and Extension policies as they apply to these focus areas; research alternatives for expansion of the program in content and audience and develop recommendations; provide leadership to enhance statewide programmatic efforts; oversee 4-H educational development projects, extended learning opportunities, and coordination of animal and equine science education. Partner with collaborators to assist in developing education materials related to animal and equine science grounded in positive youth development and ensure strong educational components are present in local, area, state, and national events. Ensure consistent educational programs with a focus on positive youth development at events throughout the state. Work with committees providing expertise and guidance to program staff and volunteers related to animal and equine science education in the delivery of programs. Provide guidance and act as a resource to 4-H volunteer leaders throughout the state related to the 4-H field days, public speaking opportunities, fairs, and national events. Identify opportunities to conduct applied research that will enhance and/or expand impacts of the UW Extension, Wyoming 4-H program.

This position will assist with animal and equine science project and grant management including budget management, project recordkeeping and evaluation, and required reporting.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • An earned master's degree from an accredited university in animal science, livestock management, or closely related field.
  • Valid driver's license with a motor vehicle record (MVR) compliant with the University Vehicle Use Policy.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience in 4-H Youth Development programs and teaching methodologies.
  • Exhibit the organizational skills necessary for planning, coordinating, and facilitating large complex programs with many different components and collaborators.
  • Competent in scholarly activities including peer-reviewed publications, grants, and curriculum.
  • Knowledgeable in innovative teaching strategies and methods including the use of technology.

This position provides vital support to campus customers and requires the successful candidate be available to work on campus or in an approved UW Extension County Office.
