Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit |
The mission of the School of Nursing is Advancing Health for All. The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Nursing has been the leader in nursing education in North Carolina throughout its history. Established in 1950, it was the first school of nursing in North Carolina to offer a four-year baccalaureate nursing degree program followed by the first master's degree program, the first continuing education program for nurses, first doctoral program, and first accelerated
BSN option to students with college degrees. Today, the School is renowned for its academic programs, its research and its commitment to clinical and community service within state, national and global communities. |
Position Summary |
The Executive Assistant position requires close attention and responsiveness to the administrative needs of the Dean of the School of Nursing, including regular consultation regarding current and emerging priorities. Using excellent judgment, the Executive Assistant brings critical issues to the Dean's immediate attention and reroutes some issues to other areas for handling as needed. The Executive Assistant should have a comprehensive knowledge of University systems and operations to ensure accurate and efficient support to the Dean, as well as smooth and appropriate interfaces with other offices and individuals at the University. Public contact is a major component of this position, both internal and external to the organization, and requires contact with program staff, managers of other units within the organization, representatives of other state agencies/universities, potential students, service recipients, elected/appointed representatives, alumni, and donors.
The Executive Assistant works in a fast-paced and high-profile office and is expected to maintain composure under pressure and have the ability to multi-task. The Executive Assistant is organized, detail-oriented, and meets deadlines. Duties range from standard office support such as calendaring and travel arrangements to administrative assignments involving decision-making and critical thinking. |
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
High school diploma or equivalency and three years of progressively responsible administrative/office management experience; or Associate's degree in secretarial science, business administration, or a related discipline and one year of progressively responsible administrative/office management experience ; or Bachelor's degree, preferably in business administration or a related discipline; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. |
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
Prior experience as an executive assistant, office manager, or similar role.
Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Outlook email and calendars, Teams, PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Zoom) |
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience |
Prior work experience supporting a senior level executive.
Prior work experience in a university setting.
Prior experience using Concur. |
