Position Summary Information


Primary Purpose
The University of the Pacific is seeking an experienced and dedicated Head Cross Country
Coach who will also serve as an Assistant Track & Field Coach. The ideal candidate will
lead all aspects of the cross country program while supporting the track & field team-
particularly in the distance events and additional event groups as needed. A strong
background in recruiting, athlete development, and program management is essential.
Essential Functions

  • Serve as Head Coach for the men's and women's cross country programs, overseeing training, competition planning, and athlete development.
  • Assist the Director of Track & Field/Cross Country with the recruitment and coaching of distance runners for the indoor and outdoor track seasons.
  • Coordinate and execute a year-round training plan that prepares student-athletes for peak performance during championship segments.
  • Lead domestic and international recruiting efforts for distance and additional event groups; evaluate academic and athletic credentials to ensure fit and eligibility.
  • Foster academic accountability and support student-athletes in meeting academic standards and graduation goals.
  • Assist in planning travel, organizing home meets, and managing equipment needs for both cross country and track programs.
  • Promote a culture of competitiveness, discipline, and unity aligned with the values of the University and the athletic department.
  • Collaborate with strength and conditioning staff, medical personnel

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Minimum of 5 years collegiate coaching experience in distance events and cross country.
  • Proven experience leading or assisting a successful cross country program at the NCAA level.
  • Demonstrated success in recruiting high-caliber student-athletes both domestically and internationally.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills with an ability to manage multiple responsibilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree preferred.

  • USATF certifications and CPR/AED certification preferred.
  • Ability to mentor student-athletes both athletically and personally, fostering confidence, accountability, and long-term growth.
  • Background in program operations including budgeting, apparel/equipment coordination, and travel planning.
  • A growth mindset and a passion for building a competitive program within the West Coast Conference.

Physical Requirements
Hiring Range $68,640.00
