Job Summary

Provides legal support for all employment matters. Manages general legal matters, advises University officials on legal aspects of policy, assists in formulation of policies, and interacts with members of the University community, legal professionals.

  • Provides legal advice and support on all aspects of employment matters as it relates to the faculty and to primarily the Vice Provost for Faculty Leadership and Success, the Associate Provost of Planning & Finance, and other applicable offices within the Office of the Provost.
  • Provides legal advice and support on all aspects of employment matters as it relates to the non-faculty staff and the Division of Human Resources.
  • Provides a high level of professional legal advice to the University community regarding area of expertise.
  • Provides legal advice and support to all collective bargaining teams, including serving on the collective bargaining team.
  • Assists in the investigation of potential violations of law, regulations and FIU policy and assists the clients in remedying any deficiencies. Conducts policy and/or regulation-making for the University.
  • Advises University executives in policy-making functions. Interprets policy for University officials up to and including presidential level.
  • Conducts legal research and drafts interpretative memorandum as needed.
  • Oversees employment-related litigation.


Minimum Qualifications

Law degree (L.L.B. or J.D.) and licensed to practice law with at least ten (10) experience as an attorney. Must be a member of the Florida Bar or become a member within twelve months of employment.



Desired Qualifications

L.L.B. or J.D. degree, licensed to practice law, with ten (10) to fifteen (15) years of experience as an attorney with increasing level of responsibilities including office administration and legal duties.

Experience in higher education is preferred.

Member of the Florida Bar.
