THE POSITION

The Department of Labor & Industry is currently looking to hire a Legal Assistant Supervisor to oversee a team of Legal Assistant 2s within the Capitol sector. This role is crucial for ensuring that unemployment compensation (UC) appeals are processed accurately and promptly, adhering to both UC law and UCBR regulations. The supervisor will provide essential administrative support to the Capitol Sector Program Manager, ensuring that all reports are completed and submitted on schedule. Additionally, this position involves reallocating tasks among Referees and legal assistants as needed, as well as coordinating with other offices in different sectors to secure necessary assistance. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will be expected to exercise independent judgment in various situations, ensuring that decisions align with organizational goals. You will oversee subordinate staff, providing supervision and support as they carry out their responsibilities. A key aspect of your role will involve prioritizing and allocating work assignments effectively, ensuring that tasks are distributed according to urgency and team capacity. Additionally, you will be responsible for training and guiding staff members, fostering their professional development and enhancing overall team performance. Regularly reviewing and analyzing work results will be crucial, as it allows for the identification of areas for improvement and the implementation of necessary changes. You will also be tasked with completing productivity reports, which will help in tracking progress and outcomes. Clear communication, both orally and in writing, will be essential in this role, as you will need to convey information effectively to various stakeholders. Proficiency in operating a PC and other office equipment will be required to facilitate your daily tasks. Furthermore, you will monitor and evaluate employee performance, providing constructive feedback to help team members grow. Finally, occasional travel may be necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of this position, allowing for engagement with broader organizational initiatives.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Work Hours are negotiable.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time upon successful completion of probationary period. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office that is closest to your home.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year as a Legal Assistant 2 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Five years of responsible clerical, investigative or enforcement work including two years of legal clerical experience; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
