Essential Job Duties |
The primary purpose of this position is to assist the Office of Undergraduate Admissions in identifying, recruiting and enrolling a new academically strong student class each academic year. The assistant director will articulate admissions policies and procedures to students, parents and counselors. Additionally, this person will review academic credentials of applicants to make appropriate decisions regarding admissibility to the university.
The assistant director will also:
- Manage major admissions projects as assigned, including attending meetings with university faculty and various University committees to represent the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.
- Oversee the Undergraduate Admissions' outreach efforts in collaboration with various colleges and departments.
- Serve as a leader within the Undergraduate Admissions team and ensure we have appropriate office coverage for information sessions, phone inquiries and our main email account response. This position will serve on our training and development team to ensure all new hires in Undergraduate Admissions are well trained, coached and utilizing best practices of recruitment and customer service.
- Supervise full-time admissions counselors and student employees. Responsibilities include coaching, developing and ensuring that they are best poised to recruit and enroll students on behalf of Undergraduate Admissions.

Other Responsibilities |
- Recruitment activities will involve extensive travel, event/program planning and coordination both in state and out of state and considerable public speaking. Weekend and evening work will be required occasionally.
- Represent NC State to prospective students, parents and counselors by participating in such events as high school visits, college fairs, receptions, etc. There is extensive contact with the public by phone, email and in person. The position counsels prospective students, providing information about the university and its programs of study and admission standards, policies and procedures.
- Conduct information sessions on campus for prospective students and their parents.

Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience |
- Bachelor's degree + a minimum of 3 years relevant experience.
- All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

- Ability to exercise judgment and work independently.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work creatively, collaboratively and effectively as a team member.
- Strong organization and time management skills to ensure scheduled deadlines.
- Computer proficiency - must be knowledgeable in the use of computerized management information systems (databases).
- Demonstrated ability to make accurate and consistent interpretations of a broad variety of academic and/or administrative policies and procedures.
- Ability to exercise good judgment and discretion, particularly in matters relative to sensitive or confidential student records, personnel or organizational matters.
- Work requires in-depth analysis and counseling skills along with independent judgment and discretion to render appropriate admissions decisions in an increasingly competitive market.
- Flexibility to travel for extended periods.
- Ability to lift up to 60lbs on occasion.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Experience in a university work setting.
- Four years admissions experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a related field preferred.
