Heating and Ventilating Specialist
Milwaukee County Facilities Management

Pay Range: $29.89 - $44.84

Job Summary: Maintain HVAC systems, including all types of heating & cooling equipment, boilers & chillers, rooftop units & built-in systems. Install & maintain HVAC controls such as control panels, room sensors, and thermostats. The Heating and Ventilating Specialist will work closely with HVAC team members and other Trades and departments. Work in all Milwaukee County facilities including secured detention facilities and secure working areas with sensitive information and assets

Essential Responsibilities:



  • Maintain heating plants and chilled water systems including cooling towers and air handling equipment. Service steam supply/condensate systems. Repair temperature control systems, thermostats, and air compressor systems.
  • Steam & gas fired heating plant & chiller seasonal start-up & shutdown. Boiler seasonal start-up & shutdown. Daily monitoring and adjustments on said systems.
  • Respond to emergency work orders including HVAC equipment & control failure, and hot/cold calls.
  • Interface with work order system. Keep accurate records of needs, repairs & maintenance. Complete requisitions & order materials to perform work duties. Use computer to respond to email, enter time worked, and complete on-line training as assigned.
  • Work with members of other Trades teams whenever needed to perform the duties of the position or assist other teams when needed to perform other duties of the department.



Minimum Requirements:



  • High school diploma/GED equivalent required.
  • A valid state of Wisconsin driver's license at time of hire and maintained throughout employment.
  • Associate's Degree in HVAC with at least three (3) years of field experience OR have you completed a State recognized HVAC apprenticeship OR have other HVAC certifications and at least five (5) or more years of related field.
  • Basic knowledge of all related computer and software applications, such as word processing and spreadsheets including: Microsoft Word, Excel and E-mail correspondence.
  • Must currently hold or be willing to obtain a Refrigerant Handling Certification within six (6) months of hire.
  • Must successfully undergo a criminal history background check to maintain security clearance for Milwaukee County facilities.



Possess and maintain one of the following licenses:



  • ASOPE Facility Operating Engineer 1st Class
  • Power Plant Operational Engineer 3rd Class
  • NIULPE 4th Class Engineer



Required Abilities:



  • Push, pull, lift and carry up to 50lbs on a consistent basis.
  • Work outdoors in extreme weather conditions - hot, cold, snow, rain etc.
  • Work flexible schedules with the ability to be on call
  • Climb ladders and work at heights
  • Good communication skills and ability to effectively communicate with other trades and contractors
  • Read construction drawings and understand specifications
