Coperion Food Equipment, a leading provider of food processing equipment, is seeking a highly skilledEquipment Service Support Specialistto oversee technical support, supervise field service operations, and ensure optimal product quality and customer satisfaction. This multifaceted role combines hands-on technical expertise, team leadership, project coordination, and strategic planning to deliver exceptional service and maintain high standards across all departments. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong technical background in industrial bakery or food equipment, extensive leadership experience, and a customer-focused mindset. Work You'll Do: Technical Support & Customer Service:
- Provide in-house technical support for bakery and food processing equipment, including troubleshooting, diagnostics, repairs, and preventive maintenance.
- Respond to customer inquiries and service requests, providing timely and accurate solutions.
- Develop and deliver training modules, including documentation and instructional videos, for routine maintenance and troubleshooting.
Field Service Operations & Team Leadership:
- Oversee the daily operations of the field service team, ensuring the effective management of customer service calls, technician and contractor schedules, and project deadlines.
- Coordinate and supervise installation, repair, and maintenance projects, primarily on industrial horizontal mixers (up to 10,000 lbs., 250 HP, 600V) and dough handling equipment.
- Manage departmental budgets, forecasts, and expenses, ensuring cost-effective operations.
- Work independently, maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and customer service.
- Limited, but potential travel up to 5%
Project Management & Production Support:
- Collaborate with engineering teams to identify design issues and develop solutions, including factory and field modifications.
- Lead efforts to modernize vintage equipment and rebuild equipment at the production facility.
- Develop custom maintenance programs and preventative procedures for new and existing customer equipment.
- Support new equipment testing, including operational and factory acceptance tests with customer teams.
- Spearhead the development of jigs, fixtures, and procedures to improve equipment production, repair, and quality assurance.
Vendor & Supplier Coordination:
- Work directly with vendors and contractors to assess quality and resolve field issues, including electronics, drives, PLCs, and safety controls (e.g., Nord and Eurodrive gear reducers, Siemens motors, Allen Bradley PLCs).
Continuous Improvement & Documentation:
- Author and update policies, manuals, and supplemental service guides.
- Develop and implement training procedures and instructional content.
- Monitor industry trends and recommend process improvements to enhance service quality and operational efficiency.
Team:
- This role supports the field service technicians, customers, and third-party vendors to ensure the seamless installation, maintenance, and repair of bakery and food processing equipment. Collaborating closely with engineering, customer service, and suppliers, the Service Support Technician helps troubleshoot complex issues, coordinate activities, and deliver exceptional service. As part of the Coperion Food Equipment family, this position plays a vital role in maintaining equipment performance and customer satisfaction across all divisions.
Basic Qualifications:
- Proven experience in industrial equipment troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance, preferably within food, bakery, or similar processing industries.
- Strong leadership skills with experience managing technical teams, scheduling, and project coordination.
- Extensive knowledge of horizontal mixers, dough handling machinery, and related automation components (VFDs, PLCs, motors, gearboxes).
- Familiarity with electrical schematics, OEM manuals, and troubleshooting electrical and mechanical systems.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement maintenance programs, policies, and training content.
- Capable of collaborating effectively across departments-engineering, production, vendors-and managing external contractor relationships.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical thinking, and innovation skills.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize multiple projects, and adapt to remote working conditions.
- Budgeting, forecasting, and procurement experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Technical certifications or advanced training in electrical systems, industrial automation, or mechanical maintenance.
- Experience with factory acceptance testing and field modifications.
- Knowledge of safety standards, regulatory compliance, and industry best practices.
