JOB SUMMARY
Vaco Technology is currently seeking an L2 Software Packaging Engineer for a 3-6M C2H opportunity that is 100% remote based. The L2 Software Packaging Engineer will be part of the team that is transforming endpoint management utilizing Core DevOps Methodologies and AI (Artificial Intelligence) to eliminate manual IT maintenance, reduce risk, and resolve issues before they occur.
  • Develop / Maintain Software Packages based on Client Request
  • Test Software Packages Thoroughly - Documenting Testing Outcomes
  • Collaborate with Global Customers (Email / Video) - Troubleshooting / Guidance
  • Resolve Customer-Related Software / OS Issues
  • Work Closely with Internal Teams on Escalations
  • Manage Workload / Deadlines Independently in Fast-Paced Environments
  • Assist in Improving Packaging Standards / Security Practices / Internal Tooling
  • Participate in Continuous Learning / Sharing Best Practices with the Team

About the Project: This company offers an automated endpoint management service that helps organizations keep their computers secure and up to date without the need for manual intervention. They work directly with the end customers to define precise configurations, including all required software, specific versions (not necessarily the latest versions), software that should not be present, and dependencies / prerequisites, ensuring company the endpoints conform to it and to achieve the desired state. Customers run the software one-time per month, to ensure compliance is enforced. Their objective is not just about patching and updates, but rather about maintaining uniformity and security. This company packages software once, in a very specific format, where these packages are reused across all customers, eliminating redundant packaging work done independently by the end customers IT Team and streamlining monthly compliance checks. Additionally, this company currently utilizes AutoIT, which they know is outdated technology and are working to identify and implement a more current, modern solution. This is not a technical skill that the L2 Engineer must come with, but they must be willing to learn it and utilize it effectively.

Team Breakdown: 14 Total Engineers | 6 L1 Engineers (offshore) / 8 L2 Engineers
  • 6 L1 Engineers (Philippines), that function as entry-level packaging engineers, handling basic packaging tasks (log and flog, etc.), but this team is not quite ready for taking on more ownership, but the objective is to grow that function of this team.
  • 8 L2 Fulltime Engineers (US / Canada-based primarily), that package the software, troubleshoot complex installation/residue issues, ownership of customer issues / support, lead customer meetings, perform deep problem solving, and are seen as essential for maintaining quality / escalation paths.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
  • L2 Software Packaging Engineer - Orca / MSI / ODT / Admin Studio / Wise Script / PowerShell Sapp Deploy Toolkit, etc.
  • Scripting (hands-on) - PowerShell / VB / Batch / AutoIT, etc.
  • Endpoint Configuration - Windows OS / Active Directory
  • Deployment / Endpoint Management Tools - SCCM / InTune / Endpoint Central / Azure / Ivanti, etc.
  • OS Deployment / Configuration - ODS / Drivers / Task Sequence
  • Third Party Patching / Update Services (knowledge) - WSUS / SUP, etc.
  • Security Best Practices (familiarity) - Software Packaging / Deployment
  • Version Control Tools - GITHub (strongly preferred)

Determining compensation for this role (and others) at Vaco/Highspring depends upon a wide array of factors including but not limited to the individual's skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, office location and other geographic considerations, as well as other business and organizational needs. With that said, as required by local law in geographies that require salary range disclosure, Vaco/Highspring notes the salary range for the role is noted in this job posting. The individual may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses, and can participate in medical, dental, and vision benefits as well as the company's 401(k) retirement plan.
