Position Summary The Extra Help Medical Technologist II (Medical Laboratory Scientist Educator) provides comprehensive education and training to future professionals, including lesson planning, assessment, and participation in curriculum development and student recruitment. They equip aspiring Medical Laboratory Scientists with the necessary skills and understanding to excel in CLIA laboratories and meet certification requirements. Duties & Responsibilities Develop and deliver comprehensive lesson plans and materials in clinical laboratory science subjects, ensuring alignment with current industry practices and technological advances. Design and implement effective teaching strategies that cater to the diverse learning styles of interns, fostering an engaging and inclusive classroom environment. Regularly update course content and materials to reflect changes in the field, advancements in technology, and new educational methodologies. Develop and conduct training on the principles and techniques used in medical laboratory tests, including but not limited to chemistry, hematology, microbiology, molecular, genomic medicine, and HLA/Tissue Typing. Coordinate practical laboratory training and assist in resolving training challenges by suggesting alternative methodologies. Analyze training needs continuously and adjust programs as necessary to meet specialized training areas. Implement evaluative tools to measure training effectiveness and modify course content accordingly. Counsel interns on academic and professional development, maintaining accurate records of intern progress and achievements. Act as the primary liaison with the MLS Program team to ensure curriculum relevance and ensure curriculum relevance and requirements for certification are met. Participate in the recruitment, selection, and orientation of new interns, maintaining active communication with affiliated educational institutions. Perform other duties as assigned. Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned. Minimum Qualifications High school graduation or equivalent. Meets basic standards and qualifications for laboratory testing for general supervisory personnel under Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA), Subpart M, Section 493.1461. Preferred Qualifications Profound knowledge of clinical laboratory science principles, procedures, and practices. Proficiency in a wide range of teaching methods to accommodate diverse learning styles. Excellent organizational skills and the ability to maintain accurate records. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, for effective teaching and collaboration. Ability to innovate and adapt teaching strategies and materials to enhance intern learning. Familiarity with current teaching technologies and platforms (Media Lab, current textbooks, etc.) Demonstrated ability to instruct and guide classes efficiently and effectively. Proven track record of evaluating intern achievement and maintaining a safe and orderly learning environment. Experience in curriculum design and implementation, along with the ability to participate in department policy formulation. Commitment to staying abreast of the most current teaching methods and classroom technology. Ability to serve on department committees, career fairs, etc. as needed to engage in professional development opportunities for future MLS interns.
