Position Summary

Oversee the technical usage of equipment through instruction of proper procedures and to maintain equipment in all studios. Opportunity to teach one section of a course in a 3-D discipline in each fall and spring semester.

Duties/Responsibilities



  • Supervise and maintain equipment.

  • Instruct students and student workers in safe usage of equipment and performance of studio duties.

  • Prepare requisitions, order supplies, and reconcile receipt of materials.

  • Recruit and hire student workers for Open Studio monitors. Oversight of student worker training, scheduling, payroll timesheet approval.

  • Process Physical Plant work orders and act as the liaison for work between the Physical Plant and faculty.

  • Perform emergency repairs and periodic overhauls of equipment.

  • Design and construct special equipment.

  • Compile annual hazardous materials report.

  • Maintains all safety infrastructure in the Art and Design Department (first aid kits, eyewash stations, dust collectors, etc.).

  • Assist with MAC/Pace Galleries lighting, signage and other details related to exhibits.

  • Attends all faculty meetings.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Required Knowledge and Skills



  • Bachelor's in Art required.

  • Minimum one-year supervisory experience required.

  • Experience with casting (bronze and aluminum) and welding (ARC, MIG, TIG).

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required.

  • Good decision-making skills. Experience in coordinating facilities.

  • Ability to work independently to initiate and follow through with projects. Experience with diagnosis and repair of equipment.


Preferred Knowledge and Skills



  • Master of Fine Arts degree preferred as there is an opportunity to teach a course on a regular rotation.


Regular Work Hours/Travel Requirements


  • Standard work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Occasional overtime may be required.

The Art & Design program at the University of Southern Indiana offers a BFA in Art, with concentrations in graphic design, illustration, interactive media, photography or studio. Students can also earn a BA/BS in Art with emphasis in Art History, Art Education, or one of the concentration areas mentioned previously. Art Minors in art history, art teaching, digital video design, graphic design, photography, and studio art are also available.
