The Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University in the City of New York invites applications for the Lamont-Brinson Postdoctoral Fellowship in the field of earthquake physics, fault structure and mechanics, and related fields. We are interested in candidates with expertise in observational and/or computational seismology, geodesy, and/or geology. Researchers that utilize AI/ML approaches are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate is expected to perform research broadly related to LDEO's "Anticipating Earthquakes" Initiative (https://lamont.columbia.edu/anticipating-earthquakes) within the Seismology, Geology, and Tectonophysics Division (SGT). The initiative aims at improving our understanding of the relationship between active faults and the earthquakes they generate.

Candidates should have recently completed their Ph.D. or should expect to complete their degree requirements by December 2025. The principal selection criteria for Lamont-Brinson Postdoctoral Fellows are scientific excellence and a clearly expressed proposal to perform research under the mentorship of faculty within SGT (https://lamont.columbia.edu/research-divisions/seismology-geology-tectonophysics). The position will be posted for at least 30 days after the ad appears. The deadline for applications for the Lamont-Brinson Postdoctoral Fellowship is August 15, 2025.

The initial appointment will start on or about January 1, 2026, and will be for one year. Appointment will be renewable up to two years contingent upon performance and funding. Lamont-Brinson Postdoctoral Fellowships are supported for 12 months, include a $7,500 research allowance, and carry an annual salary of $72,116.
