Job Description: The Director, Data will oversee the enterprise data organization, focusing on architecture, engineering, integration, and governance. This role is responsible for the strategic and technical delivery of data warehouse, data pipelines, and trusted data layers that support AI, analytics, and compliance. This role leads a multidisciplinary team-including data engineering, data modeling, and data governance-to deliver a unified, scalable, and governed platform for both internal and external use.
Strategic Leadership
- Own the vision and roadmap for our enterprise data architecture.
- Define and communicate standards for scalable, reusable, and performant data infrastructure.
- Drive adoption of common healthcare data models, including OMOP, to support structured analytics, and AI/ML enablement.
- Partner with product, AI, and engineering leads to align the data platform with business goals and client delivery.
Team Management
- Manage and mentor data engineers, architects, and data managers (data modeling, MDM, and quality).
- Create career pathways and development plans to grow a high-performing data team.
Data Architecture & Engineering
- Oversee ingestion, transformation, and storage of structured and unstructured data using modern cloud architectures.
- Ensure integration and harmonization of internal sources, vendor data, third-party APIs, and EHR data.
- Build and maintain secure, performant pipelines with version control and CI/CD best practices.
Data Governance & Compliance
- Lead the implementation of access control, lineage, metadata, and retention policies.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA and contractual data handling obligations.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with the Manager of Data to ensure delivery of consistent, query able, and well-governed data models.
- Work with product and AI teams to translate business questions into reliable data structures and sources.
- Support vendor integration, data mapping, and onboarding strategies.
Perform other duties that support the overall objective of the position.
Education Required:
- Bachelor's degree.
- Or, any combination of education and experience which would provide the required qualifications for the position.
Experience Required:
- 12+ years in data platform or engineering leadership roles, preferably in healthcare.
- Proven experience architecting and scaling multi-tenant, cloud-based data solutions (e.g., AWS, Snowflake, Databricks, Postgres, Redshift).
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code, CICD, and observability tools.
- Experience deploying and managing data platforms in healthcare production environments at scale for external clients.
- Experience with data quality frameworks and FHIR
- Experience managing multi-disciplinary data teams.
